English to Italian: AIDS: WHY TALK ABOUT IT
Source text - English
AIDS: WHY TALK ABOUT IT

Because it is a serious disease, against which we do not, for the time being, have either a vaccine or an adequate therapy.
However, there is no risk of being exposed to the AIDS virus for those people who follow the simple health and hygiene rules listed in this leaflet.

WHAT DOES A.I.D.S MEAN?
It is the acronym of the name attributed by American doctors to this disease. (AIDS=Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome)

WHAT IS IT?
It is a disease caused by an HIV virus (Human Immunodeficiency Virus), responsible for the failure of the body defences against other diseases. As a consequence, many other viruses, bacteria and infectious agents take advantage of this situation to multiply and cause serious and repeated disease symptoms.
There are many diseases caused by other viruses (Influenza, hepatitis B, etc.), but these are less frightening either because we now have specific cures or because vaccines are available.

HOW IS IT TRANSMITTED?
The virus is transmitted from an infected person to a non-infected person only by the contact of:
-infected blood with blood
-infected seminal fluid with blood
-infected vaginal secretions with blood

by sexual intercourse between an infected person and a non-infected person through the mucous membranes of the sexual organs.

IT AFFECTS EVERYBODY, INDISCRIMINATELY!
Whoever has unprotected intercourse with partners whose health condition is not known risks the possibility of coming into contact with the virus responsible for AIDS.

COSA SIGNIFICA A.I.D.S?
COME VIENE TRASMESSO
Italian to English: CHIRURGIA DELLA TRACHEA E TUMORI MALIGNI

I TUMORI MALIGNI

TRACHEAL SURGERY
The progress made by reconstructive tracheal surgery has led to the identification of specific indications for tracheal resection and reconstruction, the standardisation of surgical techniques, and the choice of materials for suturing. These advances have drastically reduced complications from tracheal surgical procedures. However, tracheal resection and reconstruction are still difficult and complex procedures, where even the smallest diagnostic and technical details contribute to the success of the operation. The small number of tracheal operations performed makes the time necessary for learning surgical techniques longer, and the centres, scattered all over the world, are still relatively few and far from each other. Therefore, even today, in the event that improvised attempts at tracheal surgery are performed in non-specialised centres, the risks of complications for the patient are still very high.

MALIGNANT TUMOURS
Malignant tumours, originating from the upper lobe bronchus and extending proximally to the base of the principal bronchus and to the tracheal carina, are classified as stage three cancer, even in the absence of distant metastasis. These tumours are generally considered beyond the anatomical limits of a standard pneumonectomy surgery, and they are treated with radiotherapy with palliative surgery. However, in some of these cases, using the most modern tracheobronchial resection and reconstruction techniques, complete surgical removal of the neoplasia is now possible.
