Werking van het centraal zenuwstelsel
Het centraal zenuwstelsel bestaat uit de hersenen en het ruggenmerg. Dat laatste staat in rechtstreeks contact met de perifere zenuwen, die informatie verzamelen van onder andere onze ledematen. Het centraal zenuwstelsel neemt voortdurend informatie op uit onze omgeving door middel van de zintuigen: zicht via de ogen, geluid via de oren, tast via de huid, reuk via de neus en smaak via de smaakpapillen. Het zenuwstelsel neemt niet alleen informatie op uit wat buiten, maar ook uit wat binnen ons lichaam gebeurt. Daardoor weet je bijvoorbeeld perfect in welke positie je arm zich bevindt, ongeacht of je de armbeweging met je ogen open of dicht maakt.

The central nervous system comprises the brain and the spinal cord. The latter is in direct contact with the peripheral nerves, which compile information from, among others, our limbs. The central nervous system continuously takes up information from our the nose and taste via the taste buds. The nervous system not only takes up information from outside, but also from what is happening inside our body. It, for instance, enables you to know exactly in which position your arm is, regardless of whether you make the arm movement with your eyes open or closed. |
