English to Thai: DESCRIBING AND EVALUATING A WORKPLACE WELLBEING: THE CASE OF YOUNG PROFESSIONALS IN BANGKOK, THAILAND General field: Bus/Financial Detailed field: Human Resources
Source text - English This dissertation investigates a case of young professionals in Bangkok, Thailand to describe and evaluate their workplace wellbeing. Bangkok is selected as the case onset due the country’s high rate of inequality, which is said to have an effect on workplace wellbeing. Thai perception toward wellbeing is specific to a particular group of people. Therefore, it is important to understand a specific perception for a given group of individuals. The dissertation adopts the NEF framework of wellbeing, which represents a workplace wellbeing into four areas: personal resources, organizational system, functioning at work, and experience of work, to guide the analysis. Semi-structure interview data from 13 Bangkok young professionals were used to analyze the framework. It can be described that the three common causes of concern regarding poor wellbeing among young professionals in Bangkok are: (1) the high rate of inequality, (2) a lack of established HRM policies and practices, and (3) a specific controlling culture of Thai organizations. The dissertation concludes that workplace wellbeing of young professionals in the Bangkok is unsatisfactory. There are many areas of concern that must be addressed immediately.
Thai to English: Opportunities for economic growth in the e-commerce industry in Thailand for 2017 General field: Bus/Financial Detailed field: Business/Commerce (general)
Translation - English E-commerce is considered to have a strong influence toward everyday life, and it has caused many disruptions in the business world. This research is examining a case of retail and wholesale e-commerce industry in Thailand for the year 2017. According to a latest research from the Electronic Transactions Development Agency (ETDA), which is a public organization under the Ministry Digital Economy and Society, the industry generates a high level of economic activities. This research aims to analyze an overall economic trend and pinpoint growth opportunities within the retail and wholesale e-commerce industry in Thailand. Business entrepreneurs could consider the growth opportunities to make investments in 2017.
The data source used in this research is of a secondary nature. The ETDA’s research on e-commerce in Thailand is the main source of reference. It is the only research that focuses on the topic, and it provides the latest data from 2017. The ETDA research is complemented with relevant academic literatures and practitioner literatures on the topic. A data analysis is provided from three perspectives: (1) the types of goods and services, (2) the types of business entrepreneurs, and (3) the sizes of business operations.
The analysis, based on the first perspective on the types of goods and services, suggests that the three business segments with the highest market values and average past growth rates are: (1) the department store business, (2) the sales and distribution of foods, processed foods and beverages, agriculture produces, and fishery products, and (3) the sales and distribution of cosmetics, supplements, perfume and beauty tools and accessories. Business entrepreneurs in the retail and wholesale e-commerce industry should pay attention to these business segments.
In the second perspective of analysis, there are two types of business entrepreneurs in focus: B2C (Business-to-Consumer) and B2B (Business-to-Business). The analysis results indicate that there are many business opportunities for the B2B business entrepreneurs, especially in the following business segments: (1) the sales and distribution of foods, processed foods and beverages, agriculture produces, and fishery products, (2) the sales and distribution of fashions, apparels, gemstones and accessories, and (3) the sales and distribution of sports, sport equipment, toys and souvenirs, and (4) the sales and distribution of cosmetics, supplements, perfume and beauty tools and accessories. The B2C business entrepreneurs should focus their interests within the computer, electronic, and communication device business alone.
The third perspective of analysis focuses on two categories of business operations by sizes: Enterprises and SMEs. The analysis suggests that the enterprises should focus on the following business segments: (1) the sales and distribution of automotive parts and accessories, (2) the sales and distribution of furniture and home décor, (3) the sales and distribution of sports, sport equipment, toys and souvenirs. In addition, a distribution channel analysis, based on channel popularity, indicates that for SMEs, social media platforms provide the highest source of revenues. Therefore, SME business entrepreneurs should pay a special attention to the social media platform.
The researchers are confident that business entrepreneurs, who incorporate these suggestions into their business plans, will be able to increase economic values for the retail and wholesale e-commerce industry in Thailand.
