Bio
About me:
Hello! I am a freelance translator from English and Russian to Brazilian Portuguese. I always liked to study foreign languages in general. That's why I decided to study Languages (Portuguese and Russian) in college (Federal University of Rio de Janeiro - UFRJ).
During my time in college I learned more about my mother tongue, I could develop writing skills, I studied Russian, I took courses and attended lectures about translation in many college events. Also, I had my first experience as a teacher, teaching Russian for beginners in an extension program offered by the college. My first translation occurred at this time as well, when I translated Russian short stories, and some Soviet and Russian cartoons.
After finishing the undergraduate program in 2015, I kept studying in academia. I became interested in Linguistics, so I decided to get a Master's degree in that area and I joined the Graduate Program in Linguistics of UFRJ. I did a research in Construction Grammar, analyzing how native speakers of Russian use verbal possessive constructions. During the studies for Master's degree in Linguistics, besides having learned about the mechanisms and functioning of languages from a scientific perspective, I could improve my reading skills in English, since the majority of the texts (papers, articles, books) that I had to study were in that language. After I received my Master's degree in early 2018, I worked as an Adjunct Professor (Temporary Lecturer) at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro until mid-2019, teaching Russian. It was because of this interest in languages that I decided to become a professional translator in 2019, which made me take four translation courses offered by Brasillis school, with focus on games, comics, and subtitles (movies, TV shows, etc), and how to use the software SDL Trados.
Professional experience as a translator (April 2022):
Over 250 thousand translated words, 85 thousand proofread words both from English and Russian, with texts mainly regarding video games (adventure mobile games, casino), websites and marketing/e-commerce.
Personal interests and focus:
- Video game localization (I love video games since childhood and I am familiar with the vocabulary of different genres).
- Website localization and software/hardware related texts.
- Marketing and e-commerce.
- Electronic equipments.
- Linguistics, due to my academic background.
- Humanities in general (languages, literature, philosophy, psychology, art, politics, religion, anthropology, esotericism).
