In de loop van de 19e eeuw verloor de postroute geleidelijk aan belang,
doordat er stoomschepen kwamen die de post in één keer over de
Oostzee konden vervoeren. De eerste stoomboot die speciaal voor dit
doel was aangeschaft, was de ‘Postiljonen’. Aanvankelijk was dat nog
niet zo’n succes, want als een stoomboot vast kwam te zitten in het ijs
dan was hij te zwaar om over het ijs getild te worden, en dan werden
alsnog de oude postbootjes ingezet. In de strenge winter van 1910-1911
voer uiteindelijk de laatste postboot.
Translation - English The mail route nowadays
Over the course of the 19th century, the postal route lost its past prestige, due to the increasing use of steamboats in that they could deliver all of the post at once by crossing the Baltic Sea. The first ship specifically designed with this goal in mind was the 'Postiljonen'. Often times it didn't turn out so well, because when a steamboat got stuck in the ice, it was too heavy to be pulled and the old postal boats had to be sent out. In the bitter winter of 1910-1911 the traditional postal boats were used for the last time.
An engineering student with a high level of Spanish. I have been teaching Spanish as a tutor since 2016 and translating from Spanish to English for about a year and a half.
In addition, I spent one year living in the Basque Country of Spain. During that time I completed engineering classes over the course of a semester, and worked in a research center for the remainder of my stay.
Within the wider scope of engineering my specialties are: materials science, mechanical engineering, and nanotechnology.
