Source text - English The International Court of Justice (ICJ) is the principal judicial organ of the United Nations (UN). The Court’s role is to settle, in accordance with international law, legal disputes submitted to it by States and to give advisory opinions on legal questions referred to it by authorized United Nations organs and specialized agencies. The Court is composed of 15 judges, who are elected for terms of office of nine years by the United Nations General Assembly and the Security Council.
The Court has a twofold role: to settle, in accordance with international law, legal disputes submitted to it by States (Contentious cases) and to give advisory opinions (Advisory proceedings) on legal questions referred to it by duly authorized United Nations organs and specialized agencies. In Contentious proceedings, when a dispute is brought before the Court by a unilateral application filed by one State against another State, the names of parties in the official title of the case are separated by the abbreviation v. for the Latin versus (e.g., Cameroon v. Nigeria). When a dispute is submitted to the Court on the basis of a special agreement between two States, the names of the parties are separated by an oblique stroke (e.g., Indonesia/Malaysia).
The International Criminal Court (ICC), governed by the Rome Statute, is the first permanent, treaty based, international criminal court established to help end impunity for the perpetrators of the most serious crimes of concern to the international community. The ICC is an independent international organization and is not part of the United Nations system.
The Permanent Court of Arbitration (PCA) is an intergovernmental organization with over one hundred member-states. Established in 1899 to facilitate arbitration and other forms of dispute resolution between states, the PCA has developed into a modern, multi-faceted arbitral institution that is now perfectly situated at the juncture between public and private international law to meet the rapidly evolving dispute resolution needs of the international community. Today the PCA provides services for the resolution of disputes involving various combinations of states, state entities, intergovernmental organizations, and private parties.
The International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea is an independent judicial body established by the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea to adjudicate disputes arising out of the interpretation and application of the Convention. The Tribunal is composed of 21 independent members, elected from among persons enjoying the highest reputation for fairness and integrity and of recognized competence in the field of the law of the sea. The Tribunal has jurisdiction over any dispute concerning the interpretation or application of the Convention, and over all matters specifically provided for in any other agreement which confers jurisdiction on the Tribunal (Statute, article 21). The Tribunal is open to States Parties to the Convention (i.e. States and international organizations which are parties to the Convention). It is also open to entities other than States Parties, i.e., States or intergovernmental organizations which are not parties to the Convention, and to state enterprises and private entities "in any case expressly provided for in Part XI or in any case submitted pursuant to any other agreement conferring jurisdiction on the Tribunal which is accepted by all the parties to that case" (Statute, article 20).

O papel da Corte é resolver, em conformidade com o direito internacional, litígios jurídicos apresentados pelos países, e oferecer opiniões consultivas sobre questões jurídicas submetidas por órgãos autorizados da ONU e agências especializadas. A Corte é formada por 15 juízes, que são eleitos para mandatos de nove anos pela Assembleia Geral e pelo Conselho de Segurança da ONU.

We all feel stressed from time to time – it’s all part of the emotional ups and downs of life. Stress has many sources, it can come from our environment, from our bodies, or our own thoughts and how we view the world around us. It is very natural to feel stressed around moments of pressure such as exam time – but we are physiologically designed to deal with stress, and react to it.
When we feel under pressure the nervous system instructs our bodies to release stress hormones including adrenaline, noradrenaline and cortisol. These produce physiological changes to help us cope with the threat or danger we see to be upon us. This is called the “stress response” or the “fight-or-flight” response.
Stress can actually be positive, as the stress response help us stay alert, motivated and focused on the task at hand. Usually, when the pressure subsides, the body rebalances and we start to feel calm again. But when we experience stress too often or for too long, or when the negative feelings overwhelm our ability to cope, then problems will arise. Continuous activation of the nervous system – experiencing the “stress response” – causes wear and tear on the body.
Stress has marked effects on our emotional well-being. It is normal to experience high and low moods in our daily lives, but when we are stressed we may feel more tired, have mood swings or feel more irritable than usual. Stress causes hyperarousal, which means we may have difficulty falling or staying asleep and experience restless nights. This impairs concentration, attention, learning and memory, all of which are particularly important around exam time. Researchers have linked poor sleep to chronic health problems, depression and even obesity.
The way that we cope with stress has an additional, indirect effect on our health. Under pressure, people may adopt more harmful habits such as smoking, drinking too much alcohol or taking drugs to relieve stress. But these behaviors are inappropriate ways to adapt and only lead to more health problems and risks to our personal safety and well-being.
So learn to manage your stress, before it manages you. It’s all about keeping it in check. Some stress in life is normal – and a little stress can help us to feel alert, motivated, focused, energetic and even excited. Take positive actions to channel this energy effectively and you may find yourself performing better, achieving more and feeling good.

É muito natural sentir estresse em momentos de pressão, como a época de provas – mas somos fisiologicamente projetados para enfrentá-lo e reagir a ele.
Quando nos sentimos pressionados, o sistema nervoso instrui o nosso corpo a liberar os hormônios do estresse, como a adrenalina, a noradrenalina e o cortisol. Eles produzem mudanças fisiológicas que nos ajudam a lidar com ameaças ou perigos iminentes. Isso é chamado de "resposta ao estresse" ou de "reação de luta ou fuga".

Source text - English Intense exercise changes the body and muscles at a molecular level in ways that milder physical activity doesn’t match, according to an enlightening new study. Though the study was conducted in mice, the findings add to growing scientific evidence that to realize the greatest benefits from workouts, we probably need to push ourselves.
For some time, scientists and exercise experts have debated the merits of intensity in exercise. Everyone agrees, of course, that any exercise is more healthful than none. But beyond that baseline, is strenuous exercise somehow better, from a physiological standpoint, than a relative stroll?
There have been hints that it may be. Epidemiological studies of walkers, for instance, have found that those whose usual pace is brisk tend to live longer than those who move at a more leisurely rate, even if their overall energy expenditure is similar.
But how intense exercise might uniquely affect the body, especially below the surface at the cellular level, had remained unclear. That’s where scientists at the Scripps Research Institute in Florida stepped in.
Already, these scientists had been studying the biochemistry of sympathetic nervous system reactions in mice. The sympathetic nervous system is that portion of the autonomic, or involuntary, nervous system that ignites the fight or flight response in animals, including people, when they are faced with peril or stress. In such a situation, the sympathetic nervous system prompts the release of catecholamines, biochemicals such as adrenaline and norepinephrine that set the heart racing, increase alertness and prime the muscles for getaway or battle.
Scientists long have known that the sympathetic nervous system plays a part in exercise, particularly if the activity is intense. Strenuous exercise, the thinking went, acts as a kind of stress, prompting the fight or flight response and the release of catecholamines, which goose the cardiovascular system into high gear. And while these catecholamines were important in helping you to instantly fight or flee, it was generally thought they did not play an important role in the body’s longer-term response to exercise, including changes in muscle size and endurance. Intense exercise, in that case, would have no special or unique effects on the body beyond those that can be attained by easy exercise.
The good news is that “intensity is a completely relative concept,” Dr. Conkright said. If you are out of shape, an intense workout could be a brisk walk around the block. For a marathon runner, it would involve more sweat.
“But the point is to get out of your body’s comfort zone,” Dr. Conkright, “because it does look like there are unique consequences when you do.”

Há algum tempo, cientistas e especialistas em exercícios vêm debatendo as vantagens da intensidade nas atividades físicas. Todos concordam, obviamente, que qualquer exercício é mais saudável do que nenhum. Mas, além desse ponto de partida, o exercício vigoroso é de alguma forma melhor – do ponto de vista fisiológico – em comparação a uma caminhada?
Há indícios de que pode ser. Estudos epidemiológicos realizados com pessoas que caminham, por exemplo, identificaram que aquelas cujo ritmo habitual é acelerado tendem a viver mais tempo do que aquelas que andam sem pressa, mesmo que o gasto geral de energia seja semelhante.

A boa notícia é que essa “intensidade é um conceito totalmente relativo,” disse o Dr. Conkright. Se você estiver fora de forma, um treino intenso pode ser uma caminhada rápida pelo quarteirão. Para um corredor de maratonas, isso envolveria mais suor.
“Mas o importante é sair da zona de conforto do seu corpo,” disse Conkright, “pois realmente parece que há efeitos diferenciados quando fazemos isso”.

For a long time I practiced adventure sports such as hiking, climbing and rappelling, so I mastered the technical terms used by athletes and companies in this field of activity.
During leisure time, I am fond of movies, series and books, which contributes a lot in jobs focused on culture and entertainment.
Traveling and cooking are other passions, which makes me intimate with terms used in areas such as tourism, hotels, restaurants and gastronomy in general.
I consider volunteer work to be very valuable, and I am an active participant in the TED platform, in several teams, contributing to the translation of many videos. This work has brought me great experience in a lot of areas, such as: environment, diversity, new technologies, circular economy, innovations and projects aimed at the physically and mentally handicapped. I graduated in Communication from PUCCAMP, post graduated in Human Resource Management from Gama Filho University, and completed the Global Management Program in Barcelona, Spain, a high level course given by IESE Business School - University of Navarra.
I prefer to use Wordfast or SDL Trados for translations, and Subtitle Workshop for subtitling, but I’ve already worked with MemoQ and OmegaT among others. I’m always open to learn new tools.
