Source text - Romanian Castelul Peleș
Castelul Peleș este unul din cele mai importante monumente istorice din România. Construit la inițiativa primului rege al României, Carol I, în localitatea Sinaia, palatul a fost proiectat pentru a servi drept reședință de vară pentru familia regală. Castelul a fost edificat între anii 1873 – 1914, după planurile arhitecților Wilhelm von Doderer, Johannes Schultz, Emile Andre Lecomte du Nouy, Karel Liman, Jean Ernest, fiind amenajat de celebrii decoratori ai epocii: J.D. Heymann din Hamburg, August Bembe din Mainz și Bernhard Ludwig din Viena.
Întregul palat cuprinde 160 de camere, iar pe proprietatea de 1000 ha se află mai multe edificii mai mici: Pelișorul, Foișorul, Corpul de Gardă, Economatul, Casa de Vânătoare, Grajdurile, Uzina Electrică și Vila Șipot. Castelul Peleș a fost primul castel complet electrificat de pe continentul european. La castelul Peleș s-au născut regii Carol al II-lea și Mihai I al României, s-au ținut Consiliile de Coroană din 1914 și 1925, a avut loc nunta principesei Ileana și a fost sărbătorit semicentenarul castelului.
Până în anul 1948, castelul Peleș a fost domeniu al familiei regale, iar după acest an a fost confiscat de regimul comunist, devenind din anul 1953 în muzeu. După 1990 castelul Peleș și Pelișorul întră în circuitul turistic, în anul 2006 fiind retrocedat regelui Mihai I al României.
Cele mai frumoase săli deschise pentru public sunt: holul de onoare, biblioteca regală, sala de muzică, sala Florentină, sala Maură, sala de teatru, sala de concerte, apartamentul imperial, sala de consilii, sufrageria, cabinetul de lucru, salonul turcesc, sălile de arme.
Castelul Peleș se află la 44 km de Brașov, pe drumul european E60 (DN1). De asemenea, există și posibilitatea parcurgerii traseului Brașov-Sinaia pe cale ferată. Există numeroase trenuri care pleacă din Brașov spre Sinaia, cu opririle: Brșov- Predeal- Azuga-Bușteni-Sinaia.

The Peles Castle is one of the most important historical monuments in Romania. Built at the 1st King of Romania’s initiative, Carol the 1st, in Sinaia, the palace was designed to serve as a summer residence for the Royal Family. The castle was built between 1873 – 1914, following the plans of the architects Wilhelm von Doderer, Johannes Schultz, Emile Andre Lecomte du Nouy, Karel Liman, Jean Ernest, being decorated by the famous decorators of the era: J. D. Heymann from Hamburg, August Bembe from Mainz and Bernhard Ludwig from Vienna.
The entire palace covers 160 rooms and on the property of 1000 ha there are more smaller buildings: Pelisorul (today, a museum), The Watchtower, The Corps of Guard, Economatul (today, a Hotel), The Hunting House, The Stables, The Electric Mill and the Sipot Villa (today, a Hotel). Peles Castle was the first castle on the European Continent that was completely electrified. At Peles Castle were born two of the Kings of Romania, King Carol the 2nd and King Mihai the 1st; were held The Crown Councils from 1914 and 1925, the wedding of the Princess Ileana and the celebration of the semicentenary of the castle.
Until 1948, Peles Castle was the kingdom of the Royal Family but after that year it was confiscated by the communist regime and becoming a museum from 1953. After 1990 Peles Castle and Pelisorul become tourist attractions but in 2006 are returned to King Mihai the 1st of Romania.
The most beautiful halls opened for the public eye are: the hall of honor, the royal library, the hall of music, the Florentine hall, the Maura hall, the theater hall, the concert hall, the imperial apartment, the boardroom, the living room, the office (the workroom), the Turkish salon and the weapons rooms.
Peles Castle is situated at 44 km from Brasov, on the European highway E60 (DN1). Also, there is a possibility of traveling between Brasov-Sinaia by train. There are many trains that travel from Brasov to Sinaia, with stops: Brasov- Predeal- Azuga- Busteni- Sinaia.

The joy of growing bonsai!
Bonsai are trees and plants grown in containers in such a way so that they look their most beautiful--even prettier than those growing in the wild. Cultivating bonsai, therefore, is a very artistic hobby. It's also a good illustration of the gentle respect Japanese have for living things and an expression of their sense of what is beautiful. It's much more involved than growing potted flowers, and requires a much bigger commitment--physically and emotionally.
The oldest mention of the word bonsai comes up in a mid-fourteenth century poem, but it wasn't until around three centuries later that people began using it regularly. Early bonsai can be seen in picture scrolls, though, dating as far back as 1309. In ancient times bonsai were usually enjoyed by aristocrats, priests, and other high-ranking people, but from around the seventeenth century, commoners began delighting in them, too. After Japan ended three centuries of isolation in 1868 and opened itself up to Western countries, bonsai came to be appreciated as objects of art, and people began growing bonsai not just as a hobby but also as an artistic pursuit. Large-scale bonsai exhibitions were staged, and scholarly books on growing techniques were published.
Today, growing bonsai continues to be a hobby enjoyed by members of the general public. It's also regarded as an important part of Japan's cultural and artistic tradition, nurtured over the years by the nation's climate and people's love of nature.
Caring for bonsai is no longer just a Japanese pastime. More than 1,200 people from 32 countries attended the World Bonsai Convention that was held in the city of Omiya, Saitama Prefecture, in 1989. The convention helped launch the World Bonsai Friendship Federation, which has been a driving force in popularizing bonsai and raising bonsai-growing skills around the world. The association has organized international conventions about once every four years since the Omiya gathering; so far, they've been held in Florida in the United States and Seoul in South Korea. The next convention, set for 2002, will be in Munich in Germany.
