Source text - English With regard to corals, the reefs around the islands have remained intact despite the “El Nino” effect of two years ago, which killed 90% of corals in the Indian Ocean. This is mainly due to a phenomenon called “upwelling” which happens every year during the Kharief or monsoon. This is when nutrient rich waters are lifted from the deep ocean to the south of the islands by prevailing winds. These deep waters cool the shallower water and so maintain the temperatures necessary for the coral’s survival. Some of the corals here are over 2000 years old. The team recorded the existence of the rare Mushroom Coral which is the first time this species has been recorded in the Sultanate.
Translation - Arabic ◄ بالنسبة للشِعاب المرجانية ، فقد لوحظ أنها ظلت على قيد الحياة حول الجزر ، على الرغم من تأثير ظاهرة " النينو " حولها منذ عامين ، والتي بسببها أدت إلى التخلص من ما يقرب من 90 % من الشعاب المرجانية في المحيط الهندي .
◄ ويَعزر السبب الرئيسي في ذلك إلى حدوث ظاهرة يُطلق عليها " التيار التصاعدي " التي تحدث كل عام خلال فصل الخريف أو عند هبوب الرياح الموسمية عندما تأتي المياه المُحملة بالعناصر الغذائية من أعماق المحيط ، متوجهة نحو جنوب هذه الجزر بسبب تلك الرياح السائدة .
◄ ومن ثم تعمل هذه المياه في الأعماق على تهدئة المياه الضحلة وتحتفظ بها عند درجة الحرارة اللازمة من أجل الإبقاء على حياة هذه الشِعاب المرجانية . فبعض من هذه الشِعاب في تلك المنطقة يتجاوز عمرها أكثر من 2000 سنة ، فضلًا عن تسجيل فريق البحث لوجود فطر " المشروم " النادر ، وهى المرة الأولى التي يتم فيها تسجيل هذا النوع تحت إشراف السَلطنة .

These summit series have started as a joint initiative from the UK and Germany healthcare ministries with the endorsement of the WHO. Over the past 3 years, there has been an increase in the participation from countries worldwide with attendance by ministers of health and senior delegates from healthcare systems, where international experts engage with political decision-makers, whose ultimate goal is to generate and promote a global movement for patient safety.
