Podľa posledného odhadu v období okolo roku 2000 sa v celosvetovom merítku vyskytlo 412.000 nových prípadov ochorenia ročne (4,1 % z celkových počtov všetkých novozistených prípadov zhubných nádorov ročne – viac ako 10 miliónov, okrem nemelanomových nádorov kože) z toho 279.000 u mužov a 133.000 u žien. Celých 80 % bolo zaznamenaných v rozvojových krajinách. Na druhej strane ochoreniu podľahlo 338.000 jedincov (5,4 % z celkového počtu 6.209.000 zomretých na onkologické ochorenia), z toho 227.000 mužov a 111.000 žien
Translation - English Malignant tumors of the esophagus are not among the most frequently occurring at the global level. Interest in these studies however is arising because of a sustained growth of cases in recent years, especially in developed countries. According to a recent estimate from 2000, there occurred worldwide 412,000 new cases of the illness annually (4.1% of the total number of all newly diagnosed cases of malignant tumors per year – more than ten million cases, excepting non-melanoma tumors of the skin) of these 279,000 in men and 133,000 in women. Fully 80% of these were identified in developed countries. On the other hand, 338,000 individuals succumbed to the disease (5.4% of the total of 6,209,000 deaths for all cancers), of which 227,000 were men and 111,000 were women.

Source text - French 4.4. Mises en garde spéciales et précautions d'emploi
La diosmectite doit être utilisée avec précaution chez les patients présentant des antécédents de constipation chronique sévère.
Chez l'enfant, le traitement de la diarrhée aiguë doit s'effectuer en association avec l'administration précoce d'un soluté de réhydratation orale (SRO) afin d'éviter la déshydratation.
Chez l'adulte, le traitement ne dispense pas d'une réhydratation si celle-ci s'avère nécessaire.
L'importance de la réhydratation par soluté de réhydratation orale ou par voie intraveineuse doit être adaptée en fonction de l'intensité de la diarrhée, de l'âge et des particularités du patient.
Le patient devra être informé de la nécessité de:
• se réhydrater par des boissons abondantes, salées ou sucrées, afin de compenser les pertes de liquide dues à la diarrhée (la ration quotidienne moyenne en eau de l'adulte est de 2 litres)
• de maintenir l'alimentation le temps de la diarrhée:
o en excluant certains apports et particulièrement les crudités, les fruits, les légumes verts, les plats épicés, ainsi que les aliments ou boissons glacés
o en privilégiant les viandes grillées et le riz.
Ce médicament contient du glucose. Son utilisation est déconseillée chez les patients présentant une intolérance au glucose
4.5. Interactions avec d'autres médicaments et autres formes d'interactions
Les propriétés adsorbantes de ce produit pouvant interférer avec les délais et/ou les taux d'absorption d'une autre substance, il est recommandé d'administrer tout autre médicament à distance de DIOSMECTITE MYLAN.
Translation - English 4.4. Special warnings and precautions for use
Diosmectite should be used with caution in patients with a history of severe chronic constipation.
In children, acute diarrhea should be treated in combination with the early administration of an oral rehydration solution (ORS) to prevent dehydration.
In adults, treatment does not require rehydration unless it proves necessary.
The importance of rehydration by an oral or intravenous rehydration solution should be appropriate based on the intensity of the diarrhea, the age and the characteristics of the patient.
The patient should be informed on the need to:
• rehydrate with large quantities of savory or sugary drinks to compensate for fluid loss due to diarrhea (the average daily water intake of adults is 2 quarts)
• Be sure to eat while experiencing diarrhea:
• Avoid certain foods, especially raw vegetables, fruits, green vegetables, spicy dishes, and frozen foods or drinks
• Concentrate on roasted meats and rice.
This medicine contains glucose. Its use is not recommended for patients with glucose intolerance
4.5. Drug Interactions
The adsorbent properties of this product may interfere with the delay of and/or the rates of absorption of another substance. It is recommended not to take another drug product while taking DIOSMECTITE MYLAN.

Toxická epidermální nekrolýza (TEN) je akutní, život ohrožujíjí onemocnění postihující pokožku a povrchové vrstvy sliznic. Je to onemocnění vzácné, jeho odhadovaná incidence se pohybuje od 0,4 do 1,9 případů na milion obyvatel ročně [1]. Výrazně vyšší výskyt byl prokázán u imunokompromitovaných nemocných, především pacientů nakažených virem HIV, u nichž je incidence TEN odhadována na 1 případ na 1 000 pacientů, tedy přibližně 1 000krát vyšší než u běžné populace. Onemocnění se může vyskytovate v každém věku, dokonce byl popsán i jeden případ postižení plodu, nicméně většinou se vyskytuje u starších pacientů. Ti mohou mít relativněvyšší riziko rozvoje TEN, neboť užívají více léků. Z prozatím nevysvětlených příčin jsou častěji postiženy ženy, a to v poměru 1,5 : 1 oproti mužům [2].
Poprvé bylo onemocnění popsáno skotským dermatologem Alanem Lyellem v roce 1956, proto je též nazýváno Lyellův syndrom. Později ale byli 2 z jeho původně 4 popisovaných pacientů reklasifikováni na diagnózu stafylokokového syndromu opařené kůže. Tzv. Stevensův-Johnsonův syndrom (SJS) byl zmíněn už v roce 1922 u 2 dětských pacientů 2 americkými lékaři - Albert Mason Stevens a Frank Chambliss Johnson.

Toxic epidermal necrolysis (TEN) is an acute life threatening disorder affecting the epidermis and surface layers of the mucosal membrane. It is a rare disorder; its estimated incidence is 0.4 to 1.9 cases per one million people, annually [1]. A significantly higher incidence was found in immunocompromised patients, predominantly patients infected with HIV, in which the incidence of TEN is estimated to be 1 case per 1000 patients, which is about 1000 times higher than in the population at large. The disease may occur at any age, even a case of an affected fetus has been described, however, the majority of cases occur in older patients. They may be at relatively higher risk for TEN because they use more medications. For unexplained reasons, women are more often affected, at a ratio of 1.5:1 compared to men [2].
The first case was described by Scottish dermatologist, Alan Lyell, in 1956, which is how it came to be named ‘Lyell’s syndrome.’ Later, two of his original four reported patients were reclassified with a diagnosis of Staphylococcal Scalded Skin syndrome. The name ‘Stevens - Johnson Syndrome’ (SJS) was mentioned in 1922 about two child patients by two American doctors – Albert Mason Stevens and Frank Chambliss

I have over 30 years of experience working for companies that sell and market to scientists in R&D/manufacturing at pharmaceutical, biotech, medical device and diagnostic companies, as well as with life science researchers working for government agencies, academia, and non-profits. I operate a technical sales lead company, called Compass Life Science. Before this I headed the lead development team and directed the Marketing Communications group at GE Healthcare. In previous years, I was heavily involved in technical support roles, managing groups, training, and maintaining knowledge databases. His technical area of focus was in molecular biology, assays, and instrumentation used by the pharmaceutical industry. I obtained his Masters degree in Biology at the Illinois Institute of Technology.
My translation skills were developed during 1990-1995, when I was a free-lance translator. Memorable translations include a 60 page technical document on a Slovak nuclear reactor for the US Government, and a lengthy treatise on biological weapons.
