Source text - English The balance sheet provides an overview of assets, liabilities and stockholders' equity as a snapshot in time. The date at the top of the balance sheet tells you when the snapshot was taken, which is generally the end of the fiscal year. The balance sheet equation is assets equals liabilities plus stockholders' equity, because assets are paid for with either liabilities, such as debt, or stockholders' equity, such as retained earnings and additional paid-in capital. Assets are listed on the balance sheet in order of liquidity. Liabilities are listed in the order in which they will be paid. Short-term or current liabilities are expected to be paid within the year, while long-term or noncurrent liabilities are debts expected to be paid after one year.

Source text - Chinese “纵囚归狱”是汉唐间常见的历史故实，特指地方长吏私放在押囚犯出狱与家人团聚，克期来归，众囚感恩，如期而返这类事迹有违朝廷律法，却成为良吏止讼息狱、化民向善的政绩而以程式化的书写模式反复见诸史籍，虚实参半，真伪杂糅。史传叙事直接影响了现实的政治行为，纵囚之举在汉唐间不断地为地方官吏所仿效，塑造成为历史传统。
Translation - English "Released prisoners returning to jail" is a historical story commonly occurring in the Han and Tang dynasties. It refers to the story that the local governor released the prisoners in private and requested them to return to jail on the set date, giving them an opportunity to meet their families. Touched by the local governor’s kindness, the prisoners all returned to jail as promised. Although such an action was in violation of laws, it became a kind of political achievement indicating that the benevolent local governors tried to calm down the lawsuits and educate the prisoners to follow the good. Such stories were repeatedly recorded in various historical records in a stylized manner, but some of them are true, and some of them are false. The historical narratives directly affect the political behavior in the real world. As a result, releasing prisoners had been incessantly imitated by the local governors during the Han and Tang dynasties, and shaped into a historical tradition.
Among the historical stories about released prisoners returning to jail, the most widely spread one is that Emperor Taizong of Tang released 400 prisoners under sentence of death, and they all returned to jail on a set date. See The History of East Capital in Northern Song Dynasty (Dong Du Shi Lue in Chinese), Volume No. 32:
Emperor Taizong of Song once asked his ministers: "Am I a better emperor than Emperor Taizong of Tang?" Many of his ministers responded: "Your Majesty, you are like the sage monarch Yao and Shun. Emperor Taizong of Tang is no match for you." However, Li Fang, one of his ministers, recited a poem written by Bai Juyi, a famous poet in Tang dynasty: "Emperor Taizong of Tang once set three thousand imperial maids free, and released four hundred prisoners under sentence of death who all returned to jail on a set date." After hearing this poem, Emperor Taizong of Song submissively said: "I am no match for him." ②
"Emperor Taizong of Tang released four hundred prisoners under sentence of death who all returned to jail on a set date " is a famous quotation from the poem of Dance of Seven Virtues, written by Bai Juyi, a famous poet in Tang Dynasty.③ The dance of seven virtues is one of the three most famous palace dances in the Tang Dynasty. Volume No.21 of New Book of Tang Dynasty, Record of Rites and Music said: "The Dance of Seven Virtues was originally known as the Music of Li Shimin Crushing Enemies. When Li Shimin, the later emperor taizong of Tang dynasty, defeated the army led by Liu Wuzhou, Li’s soldiers played the Music of Li Shimin Crushing Enemies to celebrate the victory. When Li Shimin ascended the throne, this music was definitely played again in the ceremony."④ After the era name of Long Shuo, once used by Emperor Gaozong of Tang, this music, serving as the royal refined music, had been repeatedly played at the suburban imperial sacrificial rites.⑤ During the middle of Tang Dynasty, Bai Juyi wrote the Dance of Seven Virtues after hearing Music of Li Shimin Crushing Enemies, with the purpose of praising Li Shiming’s achievements of bringing order out of chaos, and establishing the Tang dynasty.⑥ In Dance of Seven Virtues, many of Li’s achievements are listed one by one, for example, Li Shimin revolted against the tyranny of Sui dynasty at the age of 18, united the ancient China at 24, ascended the throne at 29, and transformed China into a prosperous and peaceful country at 35. Therefore, Dance of Seven Virtues was regarded as the heroic epic for the founding of the Tang Dynasty and passed on to future generations.
