My name
is Gabriela Bailey

I am a full time professional freelance translator in Polish
> English and English > Polish. I was born and raised in Poland, however
since 2005 I have been a permanent resident to the UK. I currently
live in Telford, England.

I believe in lifelong learning and I always strive
to be ever better as a linguist, and as a translator. I thrive on the
opportunity to expand my abilities and to use them to provide first class
unrivalled translations.

Education

I have a
B.A (Hons) in Linguistics, which included the study of:

• Second Language Acquisition

• Sociolinguistics

• Language Variation & Change

• Morphology

• Psycholinguistics

• Phonetics & Phonology

• Pragmatics

• Semantics

• Syntax

• Translation Theory & Practice

Possessing this knowledge is a definite asset in translation; vital elements of
a translation can often hinge on a linguistic technicality or nuance which the
expertise from my degree can help me decipher.

I am also a qualified TESOL teacher (Teaching
English to Speakers of Other Languages)

Mission Statement

Serving your
business needs by providing a professional service, supplying a
quality product, offering competitive prices, and delivering projects
in a timely manner.

Professional Services: Translation

Language Pair & Translation Direction

I offer translation services in a number of
working fields (please see above). My language pairs are Polish > English and
English > Polish.

Specializations

I specialize in these main fields:

• Business & IT
/ Insurance & Finance

Aided by the fact that since graduating from the university, I worked for a
financial services company in sectors such as IT and Project Management

• Manufacturing

Experience with translating all kinds of safety manuals for manufacturing
companies whilst working at a Recruitment agency

I also have skills and experience in a number of other fields (especially CVs,
cover letters– please see above for a comprehensive list).

Source Language / Target Language

I am a native Polish speaker. I began to learn
English when I was 10 years old. I took English as my A-level subject (both
written and oral). After completing my exams I decided to come over to the UK
for a gap year in order to improve my English skills (learning a language in a
natural setting is the best way there is) before returning back to Poland to
start my degree as a teacher of English. I have always been passionate about
English language and found it a pleasure – not a chore to learn it at school. After
a year of working in different jobs I decided not to return to Poland - to my
parents’ great dispear… Instead, I enrolled at University of Wolverhampton and
chose to study Linguistics & TESOL. It took five years to complete my
degree as I was switching from full time to part time a couple of times due to
work commitments / juggling money matters. Having graduated with a Bachelor’s
degree, in order to become a fully qulified teacher of English as a second
language I would have had to complete another year of full time study to gain a
PGCE qualification. At that time I was unable to quit work and study full time
so I put that on hold – and as the years went by I never got round to doing it
after all. I have had some intersting full time roles across the years as well
as part-time translation and English language tuition. However, since having my
daughter in 2015 I decided not to return to my job in Project Management and to
acquire more students and translation work. Things have worked well on part
time basis considering that I had my daughter to look after all day. Now, that
she is in nursery I can dedicate more time to translation especially!

To sum
up I am fully proficient in English. English was always my strongest subject
and I have always had an affinity for language and talent in particular for English
language. This culminated with my degree, which was a natural step for me and
represented the apex of my English language education and accreditation.

Rates/Currency

I offer fair and competitive rates for my
language pairs. I don’t list my rates on my profile as rates tend to vary on a
case-by-case basis due to a variety of considerations:

• Type of document

• Complexity of subject matter

• Turnaround window (rush jobs etc.)

As a
guide though my rates are often as below, subject to the above criteria:

Polish>English and English>Polish
all rates are per word:

       1. General - £0.09

       2.  Legal - £0.15

       3.  Business/Financial - £0.11

       4.  Technical/Engineering -
£0.15

       5.  Scientific - £0.13

       6.  Medical - £0.15

       7.  Software - £0.12

       8. Website - £0.10

My preferred payment method is by Paypal or Bank transfer (Visa).
However, I may accept alternative payment methods if required. Whilst my
preferred currency is GBP (British Pounds), I also accept USD (US Dollars), EUR
(Euros), PLN (Polski Złoty)...although other currencies are possible.

Policy on “Rush Jobs”

A “rush job” is defined as any project which
would require me to translate an average of 4000 words or more per day to meet
the deadline or any project which is awarded to me last minute with an imminent
deadline. Whilst I do like to challenge myself as a translator, all rush jobs
will be subject to certain restrictions:

• The added stress/inconvenience may be reflected in the rate negotiation.

• Issues of Priority: a rush job may not automatically gain precedence over any
existing projects.

• Quality remains the primary concern, if quality is likely to be compromised
for the sake of a (perhaps unrealistic) deadline, then the job shall not be
accepted.

Ethics / Professional Integrity

All client details, data, information and source
texts shall be handled with the upmost integrity and I am guided by the
following principles:

• All sensitive information shall remain strictly confidential unless otherwise
stipulated.

• No information shall be communicated or disclosed, in whole or in part, to
any third party.

• The information supplied by the client shall not be used, either directly or
indirectly, for any purpose other than in accordance with the translation
remit.

• No liability whatsoever shall be accepted for unencrypted data sent over
unsecured channels.

I am willing, in principle, to sign any non-disclosure agreement (NDA) that the
client wishes to impose.

How to contact me

Preferred:
I can be reached by email through Proz (see
“Send Email Icon” at the top of this page). I will reply to all emails within
60 minutes (including weekends) – Although please be aware of my time zone as I
cannot ensure a prompt answer to an email that is received here in the middle
of the night (as I will be snoozing and dreaming of maverick verbs, irregular
past tenses and translation theory etc)

Possible:
For rush jobs / emergencies I can be contacted
by telephone: +447747464470 (time zone warning as above).
