I began interpreting and translating during my undergrad while living in Thailand. While working in study abroad, I helped students conduct independent research projects on various subjects surrounding Thai culture such as health and mobility of elderly people in villages across Central and Northern Thailand, Buddhist death ritual, and education for deaf children and teens in Bangkok. I also provided translation and interpretation between students and local NGO partners on projects such as micro-hydro building on the Thai/Burmese border. I also have worked with professors on their post doctoral research, particularly with Professor Marie Eaton of Western Washington University on her studies of early childhood education and children's place in family life in villages across Thailand.

While conducting my MA in Southeast Asian Studies, I conducted all field research in the Thai language and translated my results into English for my thesis "Hanuman in Sak Yant: The Significance and Influence of Hanuman Imagery in Northern Thai Culture". This led me to bringing foreigners to monks to get Thai sak yant tattoos and providing interpretation so they would have an understanding of the meanings of the tattoos they were getting.

Other projects I have worked on included conducting research in the Thai language and translating to English for Love146, a non profit which provides support, education, and outreach to young men in the sex industry.

Finally, I have provided interpretation services for business negotiations with local partners during my time working with Where Sidewalks Ends.

I believe translation and interpretation is more than just translating words. I strive to use my language skills to connect people who would otherwise be unable to communicate by creating mutual understanding.
