Source text - English Secure shell (SSH) is not only a protocol, but also a suite of applications that can be used to connect to and administer network hosts securely. SSH uses TCP port 22 and resides at the application layer. It replaces older, nonsecure protocols, such as Telnet, remote shell (rsh), FTP, and so on, which send traffic (including usernames, passwords and other data) across the network unencrypted. This means that traffic using these older protocols could easily be intercepted and viewed by an attacker. Secure shell is seen natively on UNIX-like systems, including Linux, Berkeley Software Distribution (BSD), and so on. Although SSH is not native to Windows operating systems, several third-party applications can be used to implement SSH on Windows.
SSH can use not only usernames and passwords for authentication, but also digital certificates. It can also use a wide variety of encryption protocols, some of which are more secure than others but may be necessary for compatibility purposes between different systems. In addition to the SSH utility, which allows users to establish and maintain a remote connection securely between two hosts, SSH also has other utilities, such as secure FTP (SFTP) and secure copy (SCP), which are used to transfer files between hosts
Translation - Hindi सेक्यूर शेल (एसएसएच) एक प्रोटोकॉल ही नहीं, बल्कि अप्लीकेशंस का ऐसा सूट है जिसे नेटवर्क से कनेक्ट करने के लिए इस्तेमाल किया जा सकता है. साथ ही इसके जरिये नेटवर्क होस्ट को भी सुरक्षित तरीके से नियंत्रित किया जा सकता है. एसएसएच टीसीपी पोर्ट 22 का इस्तेमाल करता है और अप्लीकेशन लेयर में रहता है. यह टेलनेट, रिमोट शेल (आरएसएच), एफटीपी आदि पुराने और असुरक्षित प्रोटोकॉल (उपयोक्ता नाम, पासवर्ड और अन्य डैटा को अनक्रिप्टेड नेटवर्क में भेजने वाले ट्रैफिक)को हटाता है. इससे पता चलता है कि ट्रैफिक जो इन पुराने प्रोटोकॉल का इस्तेमाल करता है वह आसानी से हमलावर द्वारा पकड़ा और देखा जा सकता है. सेक्यूर शेल यूनिक्स प्रकार के सिस्टम पर अपने स्तर से देखा जा सकता है जिसमें लाइनक्स, बर्कले सॉफ्टवेयर डिस्ट्रीब्यूशन (बीएसडी) आदि शामिल है. हालांकि एसएसएच विंडो आपरेटिंग सिस्टम में नैटिव नहीं है्, लेकिन ऐसे कई थर्ड पार्टी अप्लीकेशन हैं जिसे विंडो में एसएसएच के लिए इस्तेमाल किया जा सकता है.
एसएसएच न सिर्फ उपयोक्ता नाम और पासवर्ड की विश्वसनीयता जांच के लिए इस्तेमाल किया जाता है, बल्कि यह डिजिटल प्रमाणपत्र की भी जांच करता है. यह कई तरह के इनक्रिप्शन प्रोटोकॉल का भी इस्तेमाल करता है. इनमें से कुछ अन्य से ज्यादा सुरक्षित है. हालांकि यह अनिवार्य रूप से विभिन्न सिस्टम के बीच कम्पैटिविलिटी उद्देश्य से हो सकता है. एसएसएच की उपयोगिता के अतिरिक्त, जोकि उपयोगकर्ता को दो होस्ट के बीच सुरक्षित तरीके से कनेक्शन स्थापित करने में मददगार होता है, इसकी अन्य उपयोगिताएं भी हैं, जैसे कि सुरक्षित एफटीपी (एसएफटीपी) व सुरक्षित कॉपी (एससीपी). ये सब होस्ट्स के बीच फाइल के स्थानांतरण में इस्तेमाल होता है.
