Held as a pioneering creator of bossa nova, he is considered a genius and a living legend of Brazilian popular music. He was elected by Rolling Stone Brasil magazine as the second most important Brazilian musical artist of all time, behind only Antônio Carlos Jobim.
Beginning with the release of Chega de Saudade, armed with only his voice and guitar, he began a revolution in Brazilian music, and in world music. Possessing a modern and original sound, João Gilberto was the artist who brought Brazilian popular music to the world, principally to the United States, Europe and Japan. Considered one the greatest influences on American jazz in the twentieth century, he won important prizes in the United States and in Europe, such as the Grammy, right in the middle of Beatlemania.
