Source text - English Water scarcity is threatening China’s future development, especially with regard to health and economy. Acknowledging the essential failure of governmental policies in dealing with water pollution, in the 1990s the Chinese Government decided to allow environmental non-governmental organisations (ENGOs) to partake in the policy process. Against this background, it is important to comprehend the nature of the relationship between ENGOs and the Chinese government, along with the potential development of increased participation into a broader political pluralism.
Translation - Italian La carenza di acqua minaccia il futuro sviluppo della Cina, in particolare per quanto riguarda la salute e l’economia. Prendendo atto dell’essenziale fallimento delle politiche governative volte a gestire il problema dell’inquinamento idrico, negli anni Novanta il governo cinese decise di permettere alle organizzazioni non governative ambientaliste (environmental non-governmental organisations – ENGOs) di prendere parte nel processo politico. Alla luce di questa partecipazione diventa importante comprendere la natura della relazione tra le ENGOs e il governo cinese, e il potenziale sviluppo di questa accresciuta partecipazione in un più ampio pluralismo politico.

Source text - Italian Alla luce dello sviluppo economico contemporaneo, assicurarsi un approvvigionamento energetico stabile, duraturo e cosciente è, o meglio dovrebbe essere, la priorità assoluta per ogni nazione. La Repubblica Popolare Cinese è attualmente la seconda nazione al mondo per consumo energetico. Questo rende importante le sue scelte energetiche non solo per il paese stesso ma anche per il futuro scenario mondiale. Lo scopo di questo lavoro è fornire una panoramica delle scelte energetiche cinesi passate, presenti e future, concentrandosi in particolare sul loro impatto sull’economica, legislazione e relazioni internazionali del paese. L’autore ha scelto di analizzare specificatamente la strategia nucleare viste le caratteristiche particolari di questo piano. Infatti, il ruolo centrale della strategia nucleare nello sviluppo futuro del paese e il suo anomalo supporto a discapito della sicurezza rendono questa strategia diversa da quella di ogni altro paese e di conseguenza la rendono meritevole di ulteriore analisi.
Translation - English In light of contemporary economic development, ensuring a stable, enduring and conscientious energy supply is, or better should be, a high-priority issue for every country. Given that the People’s Republic of China is currently the world's second-largest consumer of energy, its energy policy is influential not only for the country’s development, but also for the future global scenario. The purpose of this study is to give an overview of China’s past, present and future energy choices, focusing on their impact on the country’s economy, legislation and international relations. The author has decided to examine in depth the nuclear strategy because of the specific characteristics of this plan. Indeed, the central role of the nuclear strategy in the country’s future development and its peculiar endorsement to the detriment of safety regulations make this strategy dissimilar to those of any other country and consequently worthy of further analysis.

Bio
In order to explain myself and my interest in translation, I first would like to give an overview of my professional career so far.
I have been working in communications since I was in high school. After handling different volunteer jobs to obtain the journalistic license (which is mandatory to work as a journalist in Italy), I started my career. While I was completing my undergraduate and postgraduate studies, in fact, I have been working for several editorial offices, mainly writing news and reports, managing the websites and social networks, handling press office tasks and conducting interviews. My work also helped me refining my interpersonal skills and building long-term contacts. In fact, during these years I had several opportunities to prove my ability to engage with people from different backgrounds and deliver information in different ways according to the audience.
My involvement in the non-profit sector is also deeply rooted in my past. Apart from my engagement in an animal welfare association started when I was 17 years old, during the last years I volunteered for two different environmental NGOs based in China and for an UK-based charity. During the time spent in Sichuan last summer, I handled part of the communications for the charity while conducting field trips and engaging with the beneficiaries of the NGO’s projects, mostly farmers. In addition I researched for my MA dissertation regarding the impact of non-profit organisations on China’s sustainable development and the prospects for political pluralism. Although I spent there only two months, I managed to overcome the linguistic barriers and get along with the colleagues as well as with the local population involved in our work.
Consequently, my translation skills are high developed. I have a strong linguistic expertise in English, Italian and Chinese language apart from a basic knowledge of French language. Thanks to my work as a journalist, I refined my vocabulary regarding environmental protection, energy and sustainability issues as a whole. Later on, I researched for my first MA dissertation about energy policies, which dramatically improved my expertise in this field of translation. In addition, my last master in Health and Development at UCL let me gain more expertise in translating and writing health-related reports and articles and again about environmental issues, obtaining a distinction grade on my individual research project.
Given the contemporary unstable work conditions and how the non-profit sector is rife with uncertainty, I decided to dedicate myself to translation as a free lancer, so that I can develop this passion alongside my other professional path and at the same time I can increase my financial input. I am not afraid of handling several tasks at the same time. Indeed since 2006 I have been a student and a professional at the same time, proving that I was able to prioritize and to succeed even under pressure.
