Ziel der Stiftung ist die Förderung der Forschung auf dem Gebiet des Fastens als therapeutisches und präventives Verfahren für Körper, Geist und Seele im Rahmen der integrativen Medizin.
Dieses Ziel wird insbesondere verwirklicht durch:
Vergabe und Finanzierung von Forschungsaufträgen zu Themen des Fastens, der natürlichen und nachhaltigen Ernährung, sowie auch Themen der integrativen Medizin;
Finanzierung von Forschungs-, Fortbildungs- und Informationsveranstaltungen, Tagungen sowie auch der Förderung von Weiterbildung;
Alle Maßnahmen, die geeignet sind, das Lebenswerk von Maria Buchinger und deren Ehemann Helmut Wilhelmi, von Dr. Otto Buchinger sen. und jun., sowie deren Nachfolgerinnen und Nachfolger zu pflegen und weiterzuentwickeln;
Die Förderung des Fastens als Einzel- oder Gruppenerlebnis im therapeutischen sowie außertherapeutischen Bereich;
Vergabe eines Maria Buchinger Foundation-Preises an Personen oder Organisationen, die beispielhaft an der Entwicklung des Fastens und der Fastentherapie mitgewirkt haben.

Objetivos de la Maria Buchinger Foundation
La fundación tiene como finalidad la promoción de la investigación en el área del ayuno como método terapéutico y preventivo para cuerpo, mente y alma, en el contexto de la medicina integrativa.
Esta finalidad se consigue sobre todo a través de:
La asignación y financiación de proyectos de investigación sobre temas del ayuno, de la nutrición natural y sostenible así como de la medicina integrativa;
La financiación de programas de investigación, formación e información y de congresos, así como la promoción de la formación continua;
La puesta en marcha de medidas que sean apropiadas para velar por y seguir desarrollando la obra vital de María Buchinger y de su esposo Helmut Wilhelmi, de los Dres. Otto Buchinger (padre e hijo) así como de sus sucesores;
La promoción del ayuno como experiencia individual o colectiva, en el ámbito terapéutico y fuera de él;
La concesión de un premio María Buchinger Foundation a las personas u organizaciones que han contribuido de manera ejemplar al desarrollo del ayuno y de la terapia del ayuno.
