A LITTLE ABOUT ME IN THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE
MY DNA
Until the age of six I grew up in a tiny little village in Galicia, a North West autonomy of Spain. Due to the fascist Franco regime my family and I escaped in the 70’s to the Netherlands. Full of illusion about wanting better life conditions. Without knowing the language or country my mother and her four children travelled a very long journey by train to that promised land. It is probably hard to imagine for those generations who grow up in globalisation and are accustomed to rich infrastructures to immigrate unprepared. However, for my parents at that time there were other fears which outweigh the risk. I am very grateful that they did it. They showed me how to have hope and courage, be a hard worker and do the things with love. This DNA with my multicultural experience made me what I am now: a people person.

MIJN DNA
Tot aan mijn zesde jaar groeide ik op in een gehucht in Galicië, ten Noordwesten van Spanje. Vanwege het fascistische Franco regime vluchtten wij in de jaren ‘70 met onze familie naar Nederland. Vol illusie op het willen hebben van betere leefomstandigheden. Zonder maar iets te weten van taal noch land legt mijn moeder met haar vier kinderen met de trein een lange reis af naar dat beloofde land. Het is wellicht moeilijk voor te stellen voor die generaties welke opgroeien te midden van de globalisering en gewend zijn aan rijke infrastructuren dat men onvoorbereid immigreert. Echter, voor mijn ouders waren er in die tijd andere angsten die zwaarder wogen. Ik ben ze ontzettend dankbaar dat ze het hebben gedaan. Zij hebben mij geleerd hoop en moed te hebben, een harde werker te zijn en om de dingen die je doet met liefde te doen. Deze DNA samen met mijn multiculturele ervaring heeft mij gemaakt tot wat ik nu ben: a people person.

MI ADN
Hasta los seis años me crie en las aldeas Gallegas. Debido al régimen fascista de Franco mi familia y yo huimos en los años 70 a los Países Bajos. Llenos de ilusión por querer mejores condiciones de vida. Totalmente desconocidos con el idioma y país viajaba mi madre con sus cuatro hijos en tren y recorríamos un viaje muy largo hacia esa tierra prometida. Probablemente es difícil imaginar para esas generaciones quienes crecen en la globalización y están acostumbrados a buenas infraestructuras inmigrar desprevenido. Sin embargo, en aquellos tiempos para mis padres había otros temores que tenían más peso. Estoy muy agradecida que lo hicieron. Me enseñaron tener esperanza y coraje, ser trabajadora y hacer las cosas con cariño. Este ADN con mi experiencia multicultural hizo ser lo que hoy en día soy: a people person.
