Source text - Dutch Bloedbad in Niger en Nigeria door Boko Haram
Militanten van de islamitische terreurbeweging Boko Haram hebben bij aanvallen op dorpen in Nigeria circa veertig mensen gedood. Ook in buurland Niger werden slachtoffers gemaakt.
De strijders vielen in Nigeria twee dorpen in de noordoostelijke deelstaat Borno binnen, staken huizen in brand, vermoordden dorpelingen met wapens die in auto's waren gemonteerd en beroofden er winkels.
Daarmee lijkt aan de recente geweldsgolf geen einde te komen. In de afgelopen weken zijn in het noordoosten van Nigeria al meer dan honderd mensen vermoord, vooral door bomaanslagen.
Ook in Niger werd een bloedbad aangericht, meldden veiligheidsbronnen woensdag. Vijf bewoners werden vermoord toen Boko Haram-terroristen, gezeten op paarden en motorfietsen, een dorp in het zuiden aanvielen. Na het vermoorden van de bewoners stichtte Boko Haram brand in het dorp.
Grondoffensief
Vorige week richtte de terreurorganisatie in dezelfde regio ook al een bloedbad aan: toen stierven 38 mensen. Het leger heeft aangekondigd met grondtroepen en luchtaanvallen de strijders op te sporen en uit te schakelen.
Ondanks dat Niger veel militairen inzet tegen de terreurorganisatie is het zuidelijk deel van het land dit jaar al tientallen keren aangevallen. Autoriteiten hebben intussen meer dan zeshonderd mensen opgepakt die worden verdacht banden te hebben met Boko Haram.
De islamitische militanten zaaien vooral dood en verderf in Nigeria. Dorpen worden aangevallen en er vinden massale gijzelingen en verkrachtingen plaats. Afgelopen zes jaar vielen er duizenden doden. Boko Haram heeft tot doel de extreem-strenge moslimwet sharia in te voeren.
Translation - English Bloodbath in Niger and Nigeria by Boko Haram
Militants from the Islamic terrorist group Boko Haram have killed approximately 40 people in attacks on villages in Nigeria. In the neighbouring country of Niger there were also victims.
The fighters attacked two villages in the north eastern state of Borno, set houses on fire, killed villagers with vehicle mounted weapons, and looted shops.
It seems that there is no end in sight to this recent wave of violence. In the past few weeks, hundreds of people in the north east of Nigeria have been killed, primarily through bomb attacks.
According to security sources on Wednesday, there was also a bloodbath in Niger. Five inhabitants of a village in the south of Niger were killed when Boko Haram terrorists attacked, riding horses and motorbikes. After killing the villagers, Boko Haram set the village on fire.
Ground offensive
Last week the terrorist organisation were responsible for another bloodbath: 38 people died then. The army announced that intended to seek out and take out the fighters with ground troops and air attacks.
Despite the fact that Niger has contributed many troops to the fight against the terror organisation, there have been tens of attacks on the south of the country already this year. Authorities have in the meantime apprehended more than 600 people who are suspected of having links to Boko Haram.
The Islamic militants are mostly sowing death and destruction in Nigeria. Villages are attacked and there are mass kidnappings and rapes. In the last six years there have been thousands of deaths. Boko Haram's goal is to implement the extremely strict Muslim Sharia law.
