The first cases of the new human influenza type A virus(H1N1) have been caused by close contacts between pigs and people; the new virus is in fact of swine derivation.
In human infections with swine flu virus have been occasionally documented since the fifties and they are in person with direct exposure and close contacts to pigs(1-2 meters), but the new virus type A (H1N1) is now adapted to human and it transmits from person to person.
In the course of the years have been detected different changes of wine influenza viruses; at the time, they are 4 main influenza type A virus subtypes that have been isolated in pigs: H1N1, H1N2, H3N2 and H3N1. However, most of the viruses recently isolated from pigs has been H1N1 viruses.
The present epidemic influenza type A virus/H1N1 is a new subtype of human influenza and contains a mix of avian, swine and human viruses that it had never observed before in no area of the world. The new viruses are often the result of reassort of genes coming from other viruses (swap genes). This virus A/H1N1 is a result of a mix of two swine flu virus that contained avian and human genes. | Translation - Italian
I primi casi della nuova influenza umana da virus A(H1N1) sono stati legati a contatti ravvicinati tra maiali e uomo; il nuovo virus è infatti di derivazione suina.
Nell’uomo infezioni da virus influenzali suini sono state riscontrate occasionalmente fin dagli anni '50 e sono legate ad esposizione e contatti ravvicinati (1-2 metri) con suini, ma il nuovo virus A(H1N1) si è ora adattato all’uomo ed è diventato trasmissibile da persona a persona.
Nel corso degli anni, sono emerse diverse varianti di virus influenzali suini; al momento, nei maiali sono stati identificati 4 sottotipi principali di virus influenzali di tipo A: H1N1, H1N2, H3N2 e H3N1. Comunque, la maggior parte dei virus isolati recentemente nei maiali sono stati H1N1.
L’attuale virus epidemico influenzale A/H1N1 è un nuovo sottotipo di virus di influenza umana che contiene geni di virus aviari, suini e umani in una combinazione che non era mai stata osservata prima, in nessuna area del mondo. I nuovi virus sono spesso il risultato di un riassortimento di geni provenienti da altri virus (scambio di geni). Questo virus A/H1N1 è il risultato di una combinazione di due virus dell’influenza suina che contenevano geni di origine aviaria e umana. |
