As a teacher of translation to post-graduate students (both native and non-native) I am particularly interested in the cultural aspects of language. I relish difference and variety, and while, as a translator, I strive to find a way to express such differences, I am even more interested in conveying to my students an awareness - and acceptance - of the limits of translation.
An Italian by birth, I graduated in French and Russian from a British university and obtained a Post-graduate Diploma in interpreting and translating from the University of Bath. I then spent nine years in Brussels working as staff translator for the Translation Service of the European Union. I specialized in customs, transport and social affairs. I now live in Bath, where I teach translation and interpreting at the University. I am not interested in freelance work, as my young family and the teaching keep me more than busy, but my interest in all aspects of language and linguistics has led me to this site. I am happy to help when I can and I hope I can count on cyber colleagues' help when I'm stuck for words with my students! |
