KBC tekende een overeenkomst met CityLife. CityLife is een klantengetrouwheidsplatform met dubbele spaarmogelijkheid, ontwikkeld door het Mobile Vikings-team voor lokale handelaars. De mobiele operator brengt op die manier zijn expertise op het vlak van lokale community building en klantactivatie naar een nieuwe markt. Naast KBC stapt ook de Limburgse investeringsmaatschappij LRM in het CityLife-project.
CityLife: een unieke combinatie
De klant ontvangt een digitale klantenkaart (een fysieke kaart of een app voor op de smartphone) waarmee hij digitale stempels voor kortingen en gratis producten in winkels en horecazaken verzamelt. Bijzonderheid: hij verdient op de koop toe automatisch ‘citycoins’ voor kortingen bij derde partijen zoals Mobile Vikings, lokale initiatieven in de stad, enz..
De koper spaart zowel voor zichzelf (loyalty) als voor de community (bv. een goed doel). Daarmee onderscheidt CityLife zich van andere spelers op de markt. Ook kan de handelaar dankzij CityLife op een laagdrempelige manier aansluiting vinden bij de digitale realiteit.
KBC en CityLife: een ‘lokaal’ verhaal
De lokale slagkracht die kenmerkend is voor CityLife past perfect in de strategie van KBC om lokaal sterk vertegenwoordigd en verankerd te zijn, en om bovendien het lokale ondernemerschap te stimuleren.
KBC steunt CityLife niet alleen financieel, maar zet ook zijn expertise in om de getrouwheidskaart doeltreffend in de markt te plaatsen. KBC bekijkt tevens of het betaalfaciliteiten kan koppelen aan de kaart. Het doel? Een unieke ervaring creëren, zowel voor de klant als voor de handelaar, met de focus op eenvoud en gebruiksvriendelijkheid.
Mobile Vikings en CityLife: permanente innovatie
Mobile Vikings, de mobile community-operator die erin slaagde op vijf jaar tijd 220 000 ‘vikings’ het mobiele tijdperk binnen te loodsen, blijft innoveren.
Daarom zal de operator – op zijn beproefde, communitygedreven manier – CityLife de komende maanden promoten als een beloningsplatform voor zijn vikings. Die zullen straks dan ook goedkoper kunnen bellen en surfen wanneer ze bij aangesloten handelaars gaan shoppen.
Hoe werkt het?
Lokale handelaars ontvangen van CityLife een tablet die hen toegang verschaft tot een onlinemarketingplatform. Via dat platform kunnen ze vervolgens een digitaal getrouwheidsprogramma opzetten – zowel op handelaarsniveau als op stadsniveau.
In tegenstelling tot andere programma’s (zoals air miles, dat zich op een internationaal publiek richt) richt CityLife zich heel expliciet op lokale handelaars. Het zoekt ook synergieën met bestaande lokale initiatieven van handelaars en lokale overheden. Zo wil het op een duurzame manier bijdragen tot een aantrekkelijkere en leefbare stadsomgeving.
Samenwerking met derde partijen
CityLife is ook een platform voor open innovatie. Derde partijen kunnen op dat platform toepassingen ontwikkelen. KBC en Mobile Vikings zullen regelmatig een oproep doen aan de gebruikers (met open tenders) om ideeën aan te brengen die het lokale handelsleven promoten, het gebruik van de kaart verhogen, financiële toepassingen koppelen, enz. De beste ideeën worden op het CityLife-platform uitgerold.
De pilootsteden van CityLife
CityLife wordt momenteel geïmplementeerd in Leuven. Daarna volgt een aantal andere grote steden. In 2016 wordt CityLife verder regiobreed uitgerold in Vlaanderen en Wallonië. Zodra het model succesvol is geïnstalleerd in België, kan het ook buiten onze landsgrenzen worden gelanceerd.

KBC signed an agreement with CityLife. CityLife is a customer loyalty platform with a double savings opportunity and was developed for local merchants, by the Mobile Vikings team. By doing so, the mobile operator brings its local community building and customer activation expertise to a new market. The Limburg-based investment company LRM is also participating in the CityLife project.
CityLife: a unique combination
The customer receives a digital customer card (a physical card or a mobile app) to save digital stamps for discounts and free products in shops and hospitality businesses. Peculiarity: the customer will automatically also save ‘citycoins’, to receive discounts with third parties, like Mobile Vikings, local city initiatives, etc.
The buyer is collecting and saving for both himself (loyalty) and the community (e.g. a charity). This distinguishes CityLife from other actors on the market. And thanks to CityLife, merchants can easily join the digital reality.
KBC and CityLife: a ‘local’ story
The typical local effectiveness of CityLife matches with KBC’s strategy to be strongly represented and anchored locally, and to stimulate local entrepreneurship.
Other than supporting CityLife financially, KBC also offers its expertise to effectively market the loyalty card. Additionally, KBC investigates the possibility of linking several payment methods to the card. The goal? To create a unique experience, for both the customer and the merchant, while focusing on simplicity and user-friendliness.
Mobile Vikings and CityLife: permanent innovation
Mobile Vikings, the mobile community operator who, within 5 years, managed to steer 220,000 Vikings into the mobile era, continues to innovate.
As a consequence, the operator will promote CityLife as a rewards platform to its Vikings, in its proven and community driven approach. Vikings will soon be calling and surfing cheaper, when they shop in the participating businesses.
How does it work?
Local merchants receive a tablet from CityLife, which grants them access to an online marketing platform. With that platform they can set up a digital loyalty program, both on a merchant level and a city level.
In contrast to other loyalty programs (such as air miles, that targets an international public), CityLife very explicitly focuses on local merchants. It looks for synergies with existing local merchant initiatives and local governments. In doing so, CityLife wants to contribute to a more attractive and pleasant urban environment in a sustainable manner.
Cooperation with third parties
CityLife is also a platform for open innovation. Third parties can develop applications on the CityLife platform. KBC and Mobile Vikings will regularly ask users (with open tenders) to provide ideas promoting local commerce, increasing the usage of the card, linking financial applications, etc. The best ideas will be developed on the CityLife platform.
The pilot cities of CityLife
CityLife is currently being implemented in the city of Leuven. A few other large cities will follow. In 2016, CityLife will be rolled out region-wide in Flanders and Wallonia. Once the model has been installed successfully in Belgium, it will be launched beyond our national borders.
