Gentle sunshine hid heat in the width of the sultry sky. We sat together in the History classroom turned sitting room. The school building stood on the top of a hill, with extensive shade from big trees. She sat in the middle of a dozen other girls but apart from them, by a tall lean girl aged twelve or thirteen. The two of them had fun expressing their imaginations on a sheet of paper while the others got up and went to have lunch in the school refectory.
