A Editora Abril lançou na última quinta-feira, 6 de novembro, em São Paulo, os números definitivos de uma pesquisa que está sendo considerada uma das mais abrangentes sobre a AIDS no Brasil. O estudo integra a campanha #AtitudeAbril, lançada no início de 2014 para ajudar a trazer de volta à tona um tema que – a despeito de seus números ainda preocupantes no Brasil – tem recebido muito menos atenção hoje do que desde a sua explosão inicial, nos anos 1970 e 1980. O evento para o lançamento dos resultados da pesquisa #AtitudeAbril contou com a presença do diretor do Departamento de DST, AIDS e Hepatites Virais do Ministério da Saúde, Dr. Fábio Mesquita.
Mais de 15 mil pessoas foram entrevistadas pelo estudo – que colocou um questionário à disposição na internet entre os dias 29 de maio e 31 de julho de 2014. Os participantes são homens e mulheres maiores de 16 anos, pertencentes às classes A, B e C, de todas as regiões do Brasil. Em seguida, os resultados foram ponderados por meio de uma ferramenta especial, para representarem o universo de todos os usuários com acesso à rede.
Segundo o estudo, há mais de 720 mil pessoas soropositivas no Brasil – e uma em cada cinco pessoas não sabem disso, colocando não só a própria vida em risco como a de seus parceiros também. A pesquisa identificou dois grupos nos quais houve um significativo aumento na taxa de infectados: jovens do sexo masculino entre 16 e 24 anos – de uma geração que está se descobrindo sexualmente e não viu a explosão da AIDS nas décadas de 1970 e 1980 – e adultos, principalmente do sexo feminino, com mais de 50 anos, que não se identificam como alvo da doença e deixam de se proteger.
Ainda assim, a despeito da relevância e da consistência inerentes à campanha #AtitudeAbril, os números não podem ser considerados absolutamente conclusivos. Embora se tenham ponderado os dados com base no perfil do internauta brasileiro (NetRatings), os dados resultantes do estudo não representam a população brasileira como um todo. O tipo de amostra, por conveniência, pode justificar também o alto percentual de pessoas vivendo com HIV/AIDS (5%) que constam da pesquisa, além do elevado percentual de pessoas que já tiveram relações sexuais homoafetivas (25% da amostra, dos quais 82% são homens), pois estas pessoas estariam mais motivadas a responder ao questionário.

Abril Approach releases large survey figures in São Paulo

Last Thursday, November 06, Abril Publishers released, in São Paulo, the definitive figures of a research project that is being regarded as one of the widest on AIDS in Brazil. The study integrates the #AbrilApproach campaign, launched in early 2014 to help bring back to the fore an issue that - despite increasingly worrying figures in Brazil - has received much less attention recently than at the time of its initial breakout, in the 1970s and 1980s. The event for the release of the #AbrilApproach results was attended by the director of the Department of STD, AIDS and Viral Hepatitis of the Ministry of Health, Dr. Fábio Mesquita.
More than 15,000 people were interviewed for the study - which made a questionnaire available on-line between May 29 and July 31, 2014. The participants are men and women over 16 years old, belonging to classes A, B and C, of all regions of Brazil. Next, the results were examined by means of a special tool, for representing the universe of all users with access to the network.
According to the study, there are more than 720,000 people living with HIV in Brazil - and one in five people do not know this, not only putting their own lives at risk, but also those of their partners. The survey identified two groups in which there was a significant increase in the infection rate: young males between 16 and 24 years old - from a generation that is discovering its sexuality and did not witness the AIDS outbreak of the 1970s and 1980s - and adults, mainly of the female sex, over 50 years old, who do not consider themselves to be a target for the disease and neglect to protect themselves.
Even so, despite the inherent relevance and consistency of the #AbrilApproach campaign, the figures cannot be considered absolutely conclusive. Although the data has been examined based on the profile of the Brazilian Internet user (NetRatings), the data resulting from the study does not represent the Brazilian population as a whole. The type of sample, for convenience, may also justify the high percentage of people living with HIV / AIDS (5%) drawn from the survey, in addition to the high percentage of people who have had homo-affective sexual relations (25% of the sample, of which 82% are men), as these people would be more motivated to complete the questionnaire.
