English to Thai: Narrative about a visit to Koh Chang General field: Art/Literary Detailed field: Tourism & Travel
Translation - Thai Hello, today I will narrate on my experience of my trip to Koh Chang. The day I went was SongKran day, during the high tourist season of Thailand. My family and I laid out plans to visit Koh Chang, which was in the province of Thraad. The trip from Chiangmai to Thraad was, if I recall correctly, about 992 kilometers long and took a total travel time of 16 hours. We had to travel for two days and stop to rest at the Chonburi province. If I remember correctly, we arrived at Thraad at about 4 o clock in the evening. On that day, we had to buy tickets for the ferry. It was called a ferry boat. This boat was able to bring cars upon it and ferry the cars to the island. However when we arrived at the ferry boat in our car, there were 2 lines you had to file into. There was one car that made a third line, and my dad did not know any better so he followed the car into the third line. Unfortunately, that line was illegal and they forced us to reassemble into the last spot in line because of what my dad did. So we had to wait through the whole line again, and instead of being the first car on the boat we were the last car. Tip to anyone who goes, do not form new lines. By the time we got on the boat, it was a already 9 pm. The ferry took about 30 minutes to cross from Thraad to Koh Chang. When we got the Koh Chang we had to drive some more to find sandy beaches. There were about 4 or 5 famous beaches at Koh Chang, with the distance between each one being fairly far. The roads in Koh Chang were horrible. If anyone is an inexperienced driver, I would recommend you not drive at Koh Chang at all because it is very dangerous. The path is steep and the turns are very sharp. The cars that come from above can't see the cars below, you will only see a light coming up. The cars from below can't see the cars above at all. It was a very dangerous path and by that time it was dark already. My dad was driving at about 10 pm, and by the time we got to a resting area it took about 2 hours. We had to drive around the whole island to find it. On top of that it was SongKraan high season, and every hotel and bungalow was full on the island. Finally, we managed to find a resting area at the beach Kai Baa, which was rated one of the worst beaches on the whole island. Our resting spot was a tent because everything was rented out. We had to wait till the people who rented the bungalow left in the morning, and then we could sleep in the bungalow. But first, we had to sleep in a tent for one night. The tent setup was parked on rocks about 1 or 2 meters high which were arranged along the beach. Further down from the rocks was the beach, and we set our tents up on the rocks. The food we ate at 1 am was very plain food such as rice and plain fried rice, because we were very tired. The food at the hotel was very expensive, or rather I should say food on the entire Koh Chang was expensive. For example, one place of fried rice was 200 baht. I had never eaten a dish of fried rice for 200 bath so it was some of the highest prices I'd ever seen. Once we finished eating, we went to take a shower and slept right away because we were all very exhausted from traveling that day. As soon as it was morning, I woke up at about 8 am and I didn't want to waste any time at all. I quickly ran to the beach and began to play in the water. The sand at beach Kai Baa was very rough; there were rocks and coarse stones but they weren't sharp enough to hurt you. I played in the water for about 2 hours, and I brought a floating noodle to play in the water. The weather at the beach was very pleasant; the sky was clear and it wasn't raining luckily even though it was rainy season. As soon as I finished playing in the water, I came up and ate. The food today was better than yesterday's because today my mom made the food herself. We had a gas stove with a portable gas tank that we used to cook food in pots we brought ourselves. We went out to buy raw food to cook. I don't remember what we ate, but it was very good, actually I remember it was seafood. We were very happy that day even though we came upon those annoyances at the beginning, such as sleeping in a tent, but all in all it was a good time.
English to Thai: Trip to the hairdresser General field: Other Detailed field: Social Science, Sociology, Ethics, etc.
Source text - English Today I will tell you about an experience I had when I went to get my hair cut. Normally, I would only cut my hair a little bit and dye it, and I would go to a particular hairdresser about once a year. I wouldn't go many times because I was trying to save money. One time that I went to the barber, I didn't go to my regular shop but I went to a shop near my house. It was just a small ordinary shop, but the hairdresser was very pretty and had nice manners. She had one son. The hairdresser was doing my hair and her son and just come back from school. He immediately went into his room and did not come out at all. At first I thought it was no big deal, that he had just gone into his room and didn't want to hang around outside because of the customers. But in actuality, that was not the case. While I was doing my hair, my hairdresser who was the mother of the child went into the room afte rthe boy. I heard the mom yelling at the child. This child was about 7 years old; I didn't know him personally but I gathered he was about this old from his mother. The hairddresser screamed at the boy in a very scary voice, saying: "Have you done your homework yet?! You haven't done it at all, you come back from school at 4:30, do your homework and then go eat. Eating time is not for homework time." I was very scared at this point because she spoke very loudly, and I was even scared she was going to hit the child. I don’t like when people hit kids. She continued to be scream and the kid continued to play games. “When you come back, have you ever talked with your mom? Every time you come back you just come play games. Why don’t you stay with the game, sleep with the game, go stay inside the game, you don’t need to stay with me!”
