I've translated a huge range of work for publication for 25+ years -- numerous books, news articles and academic essays, and probably thousands of pieces of marketing copy. I worked as a professional journalist (reporter and editor) for 10+ years, and I edit all my translations to a publishable standard. That means I deliver tighter copy than I was presented with (when necessary) and pay careful attention to specific vocabulary, idiom and rhythm. If it takes me an hour to figure out the name of a machine part or an obscure slang term, I will spend that hour.I have a BA in liberal arts, two MAs (a US one in literary and cultural theory and a UK one in creative writing) and a PGDip (in psychology, in a faculty that taught it as a science and included research methods and brain science modules). I also studied journalism full time for a year and am currently doing a short course in copywriting at the London College of Communication. |
