English to Arabic: Capacity Building for Surface Water and Groundwater Management and Monitoring
Source text - English 2. Component 2: Capacity Building for Surface Water and Groundwater Management and Monitoring (GEF – US$3,322,000; GOE - US$822,000)
2. The EWRMP will assist the Government institutions concerned to strengthen their technical capacity and knowledge in monitoring and managing the surface water and groundwater more effectively and efficiently. This component deals with improving water availability in terms of quality and quantity in response to growing water scarcity and climatic variability including flood and drought and thus contributes significantly to reducing pollution and improving public health and the ecosystem of the Mediterranean Sea and its biodiversity.
3. This component will include a number of activities aiming at an integrated management of Egypt’s surface water, groundwater and Lake Nasser. The component will include provision of monitoring equipment, training and modelling, and strategic studies addressing priority issues, to make the most of the scarce water resources available to Egypt from the Nile River and groundwater aquifers. Four strategic studies and two capacity enhancement activities will be carried out under the EWRMP. The overall outcome of component 2 will be enhanced procedures and improved knowledge for surface water and groundwater management to increase their availability in terms of quantity and quality with productivity, health, and environmental benefits to Egypt and its coastal zone at the Mediterranean Sea.
(i) Evaporation Losses Analysis in Lake Nasser (GEF – US$187,000; GOE – US$65,000)
4. Even after 50 years from the Lake Nasser formation, there is still no accurate estimate of the lake evaporation losses. Rough estimates expect that the lake annual evaporation loss is about 10 billion m3 (i.e. equivalent to about 20% of Egypt’s annual share of the Nile inflow). Several attempts were carried out to improve this estimate based on meteorological data but were associated with various uncertainties. Better estimates of the annual evaporation and their temporal and spatial distribution over the lake surface as a function of water level variation in the Lake over the year could improve the High Aswan Dam (HAD) operation to reduce the evaporation losses. The study will be implemented by the Nile Research Institute (NRI) of the NWRC using historical climate data, new data collected by the survey to be carried out under the EWRMP, different approaches for analyses, and developing a dedicated model for computing the evaporation losses for different scenarios of reservoir surface area. The study will lead to recommended operational guidelines that could be used by the HAD Authority to more effectively and efficiently operate the HAD, which will result in reduction of evaporation losses.
(ii) Climate Change Impact Assessment in Water and Agriculture in the Nile Delta (GEF – US$548,000; GOE – US$127,000)
5. Egypt is vulnerable to climate change that would result in evapo-transpiration increase due to higher temperature, sea level rise which may flood up to one third of the Nile Delta submerging one third of the population, and possible decrease of the Nile inflow. These climate change impacts could have severe effects on Egypt’s water and food security unless proper mitigation/adaptation measures are in place. This study will be implemented by the Environment and Climate Research Institute (ECRI) of the NWRC. The study will include an assessment of results of different climate change scenarios on water and land use in the Nile Delta and the expected impacts on surface water and groundwater availability, agricultural productivity and socio-economic conditions in Egypt. The study will use the available Global Circulation Models (GCMs) and/or Regional Climate Models (RCMs). It will also assess different downscaling methods (including the use of RCMs) and recommend a specific methodology for use in the Nile Basin and Egypt. The main objective is to improve Egypt’s resilience to expected impacts of and its capacity for adaptation to climate change.
(iii) Surface Water Modeling Analysis in the Nile Delta (GEF – US$305,000; GOE – US$63,000)
6. The intensive surface water channel system in the Nile Delta is extremely complex. It has been managed over years by the MWRI to satisfy multiple agricultural, industrial and domestic uses. The growing demand, increasing reuse of drainage water for irrigation, and increasing pollution trends have further complicated water management in Egypt. Modeling capacity has been developed by the Drainage Research Institute (DRI) of the NWRC during the 1990’s with Dutch TA. The recent changes in population, water availability and quality, and water uses and their planned expansion call for further development and update of the modeling capacity of the DRI to accommodate these changes. The study will include updating the model framework DELTADSS and its hydrological schematization, developing a module to simulate the different reuse options based on the available information related to water quality and quantity, improving routines for managing the wealth of collected data through the national surface water monitoring system, and training DRI staff. The main outcome of this study is the increase of drainage water reuse and the strengthening of MWRI’s capacity for managing the surface water distribution system (spatially and temporally) on a sustainable basis by integrating the water demands with the quantity and quality of the available surface water.

(ب) تقييم أثر تغير المناخ في المياه والزراعة في دلتا النيل (مرفق البيئة العالمي - 548,000 دولاراً؛ الحكومة المصرية 127,000دولاراً)
5. إن مصر معرضة للتغيرات المناخية التي قد تؤدي بها إلى زيادة التبخر-النتح نتيجة لارتفاع درجات الحرارة وارتفاع مستوى البحر الذي قد يغرق ما يصل إلى ثلث دلتا النيل ليؤدي إلى غمر ثلث السكان بالإضافة إلى احتمالية انخفاض تدفق نهر النيل. قد يكون لآثار تغير المناخ تأثيراً شديداً على أمن مصر المائي والغذائي ما لم يتم اتخاذ تدابير تخفيف/ تكيف ملائمة. سينفذ معهد بحوث البيئة وتغير المناخ التابع للمركز القومي للموارد المائية هذه الدراسة. ستتضمن الدراسة تقييم السيناريوهات المختلفة لتغير المناخ على استخدام المياه والأراضي في دلتا النيل والتأثيرات المتوقعة على توافر المياه السطحية والمياه الجوفية بالإضافة إلى الإنتاجية الزراعية والأحوال الاجتماعية الاقتصادية في مصر. ستستخدم الدراسة نماذج الدوران العام و/أو نماذج المناخ الإقليمي المتوفرة. كما ستعمل أيضاً على تقييم أساليب طرق مصغرة مختلفة (بما فيها نماذج لمناخ الإقليمي ) والتوصية بمنهجية محددة لاستخدامها في منطقة حوض النيل ومصر. والهدف الرئيسي هو تحسين مرونة مصر للتأثيرات المتوقعة في التغيرات المناخية وقدرتها على التكيف معها.
(ج) تحليل نمذجة المياه السطحية في دلتا النيل (مرفق البيئة العالمي - 305,000 دولاراً؛ الحكومة المصرية - 63,000 دولاراً)
6. يعتبر نظام قناة المياه السطحية المكثف في دلتا النيل نظاماً معقداً للغاية. وقد قامت وزارة الموارد المائية والري بإدارته لسنوات عدة لتلبية الاستخدامات الزراعية والصناعية والمحلية. وقد شهدت إدارة المياه في مصر تعقيدات كثيرة بسبب تزايد الطلب على مياه الصرف وزيادة إعادة استخدامها في الري بالإضافة إلى زيادة اتجاهات التلوث. وطور معهد بحوث الصرف التابع للمركز القومي للموارد المائية قدرات النمذجة خلال التسعينيات من خلال المساعدات الفنية الهولندية. إن التغيرات الأخيرة في السكان وتوافر المياه وجودتها واستخدامات المياه إلى جانب خطط التوسيع المزمع لها تدعو جميعها إلى زيادة تطوير وتحديث قدرات النمذجة الخاصة بمعهد بحوث الصرف وذلك لاستيعاب هذه التغيرات. ستتضمن الدراسة تحديث إطار نموذج نظام دعم قرار الدلتا DELTADSS ورسم الخطوط العريضة للهيدرولوجية الخاصة بها، وتطوير نموذج يحاكي خيارات إعادة الاستخدام المختلفة بناءً على المعلومات المتوفرة المتعلقة بجودة المياه وكميتها و تحسين الإدارة لإدارة ثروة البيانات المجمعة من خلال نظام مراقبة المياه السطحية الوطنية بالإضافة إلى تدريب موظفي معهد بحوث الصرف. إن النتيجة الأساسية لهذه الدراسة هي زيادة إعادة استخدام مياه الصرف وتقوية قدرة وزارة الموارد المائية والري في إدارة نظام توزيع المياه السطحية (مكانياً وزمانياً) على أساس مستدام من خلال دمج الطلب على المياه مع جودة وكمية المياه السطحية المتوفرة.

In January 2011, millions of Yemenis joined in peaceful demonstrations to express frustration and demand change. Yemen mapped steps to transition from more than three decades of autocratic rule towards representational governance. This process of transformation continues through an inclusive National Dialogue that will build broad consensus on reforms and set the stage for a new constitution and for presidential elections to be held in 2014. Yemen’s transition aims to address key issues—such as future relations between the feuding north and the south, and rights and freedoms—to lay the foundations for effectively tackling the country’s long-term development challenges.
OUR WORK
USAID’s assistance addresses the underlying causes of instability in the country by focusingon improving the delivery of essential services,including health and nutrition, education and water leading to more resilient communities; strengthening livelihoods through infrastructure rehabilitation, agricultural productivity improvements, and entrepreneurship; promoting inclusive decision-making and government engagement with civil society with a special eye towards female and youth engagement; and providing women and youth with meaningful civic, social and economic opportunities.
GOVERNING JUSTLY AND DEMOCRATICALLY
USAID is helping Yemen pursue its transition to democracy bysupportingthe historic National Dialogue process and electoral reforms. USAID is assisting the government of Yemen to enhance the transparency and integrity of Yemeni elections through a new voter registry system. Further support to domestic monitoring and voter education will improve citizen engagement and understanding of electoral processes. USAID supports a wide range of initiatives aimed to ensure transparency and broad civic engagement in Yemen’s National Dialogue process, such as training for the dialogue’s 565 delegates; a women peacemaker’s camp; tracking polling and public opinion research; and a series of reconciliation forums to foster increased understanding and consensus among diverse stakeholders on contentious social issues. USAID’s assistance to community-level efforts are informing and empowering citizens—especially women and youth—to engage in thisextraordinary time of change and work to build institutions, achievepolitical andeconomic reforms, resolve conflicts and otherwise improve their lives and communities.
INVESTING IN PEOPLE: HEALTH
USAID is working toimprovethe capacity of Yemen’s Ministry of Public Health and Population to deliver critical healthservices, including conducting a demographic and health survey, provision of primary health care, disease surveillance, and supply chain systems development and management. Current projects are working to improve the delivery of critical health services, increase availability of health commodities, increase access to health and nutrition services and information and improve acceptance of healthy behaviors among key populations. USAID’s efforts will contribute to a reduction in maternal and infant mortality and an increase in contraceptive prevalence.

After that, I worked in a company working in the field of
Foreign Exchange Market. I learned there to work under pressure & translate
news from English into Arabic in the Fxstreet site in less than 12 minutes and
translate news from English into Arabic in the MNI site in less than 5 minutes
while maintaining a good understanding of the English text & translating it
into Arabic without committing any grammatical or spelling mistakes.
Then,I
worked in the translation department in the Yellow Pages Company. There I was
exposed to hundreds and hundreds of company profiles, brochures, marketing
campaigns, restaurant' menus, the hotel offers that needed translation whether
from English into Arabic or vice verse.
I always seek to improve myself. I have
taken several classes in the Translation Diploma at AUC including Linguistics,
Lexicography & Terminology, Arabic Grammar, Arabic Editing, Research Tools,
Economic Translation & Legal Translation.
Besides my full-time jobs, I have
worked as a freelance translator. Among my clients were USAID, Safe
Space, ArabEasy, Aplus Translations, Theloc Masters, Le Service International de Traduction,...etc
