Background
My rent is £1625 per month and the Council paid £1,250 although initially I was not aware that there was a difference causing a shortfall in the rent. When I realised this I went to speak with the Council but they were unable to help me. In the end I paid rent directly to the estate agent.
My relationship with the estate agents has been difficult in the past. I recall that one day I had an issue with the boiler and when I telephoned the estate agents to inform them of this they said they were going to send a man unknown to me to my property to fix it. I am a Muslim and my family are also Muslims and follow Muslim culture and traditions. I informed the estate agent who I also believed to be Muslim that I was out of the house most days therefore only my wife would be in the house and it was not appropriate for her to be alone with an unknown male. I thought that being of the same cultural background as me and my family the estate agent would understand and offer and evening appointment so I could ensure that I was in the house but he did not. The estate agent seemed to mock me and say ‘I trust my wife’ therefore implying that I do not trust my wife or that my wife cannot be trusted when all I was wanting was for the estate agent to be sensitive to the cultural needs of the household.
I did received letters from the estate agents regarding the rent and in order to rectify matter I sought help from the Council although they were of no assistance.
20th November 2013
On Wednesday 20th November 2013 I was taking a walk in order to get some fresh air. It was then that I received a very disturbing telephone call from my wife. My wife sound very scared and stressed on the telephone. She was alone in the house and she said that he thought that some men were breaking down the door. I told her to call the police but my wife speaks very little English therefore I do not believe that she did so.
It was quite by coincidence that I saw a friend in his car, I flagged him down and told him that I needed to go home as men were breaking down my front door and my wife was scared. My friend said I should telephone the police. I telephoned the police and informed them that my wife was sacred as men were at the front door trying to break in. The police offered no assistance and said that they were unable to help.
10 minutes later I arrived at my property. I asked my friend to leave because I did not want him to be involved. When I arrived at the property I was anxious, worried and stressed as I could tell that my wife was very upset and needed help.
I saw a man standing by the front door, I knew him as he worked for the estate agents and 3 to 4 metres away from him was the person I now know to be the locksmith. It was a fearful scene because the locksmith had a balaclava on his head therefore you could not see all his face.
I am in very poor health and take medications. I am not a strong man.
I did not shout ‘I’m gonna fuck you up you cunt’. By this time my wife was present and I would not have used such words in front of my wife.
The estate agent did not go to his car.
I did not bang on the estate agents car.
I did not grab the estate from the car.
I did say to the estate agent that he had ‘no honour’ and was a ‘pimp’.
The estate agent then came towards me and held me tightly, I said to him ‘I’m going to die’. I pushed him away because I was finding it hard to breathe.
I did not punch the estate agents right cheek.
I did not say to the estate agent that I would fuck his wife or mother, nor did I say fuck the office or fuck the manager.
I do not believe I caused the damage to the estate agent’s suit jacket. I believe it ripped on an exposed bolt.
I did not punch the estate agent at all.
I am unsure as to how the estate agent his neck became red. I am not 100% who caused the redness.
I noticed the there were pliers on the grounds and I shouted at the locksmith that he was a ‘pimp’.
The locksmith was squaring up to me like a boxer. The Locksmith is much bigger and stronger than I am, due to my illness I am a weak man. The Locksmith grabbed me and I grabbed his jacket.
I did not punch the locksmith in the face.
I did not use pliers to bang on the locksmith’s van.

إنَّ إيجاري يبلغ 1625 يورو شهريا، وقد دفع المجلس 1,250 يورو على الرغم أنني في بداية الأمر لم أكن مدركا بأن هناك اختلاف أدى إلى نقصان في الايجار. وحينما أدركت ذلك، ذهبت لأتحدث مع المجلس ولكنهم عجزوا عن مساعدتي. وفي نهاية المطاف دفعت الإيجار مباشرة للوكيل العقاري.
لقد كانت علاقتي بالوكلاء العقاريين صعبة جدا فيما مضى، وأذكر مرة أنه كان لدي مشكلة في المرجل، وحينما اتصلت بالوكلاء العقاريين لأخبرهم عن هذا كانوا سيرسلون رجلا مجهولا إلى منزلي لإصلاح العطل. إنني مسلم وكذلك عائلتي نتبع للثقافة والعرف الاسلاميين. لقد أخبرت الوكيل العقاري، والذي أعتقد أيضا أنه مسلم، أنني كنت خارج المنزل في أغلب الأيام لذا ستكون زوجتي لوحدها في المنزل، ولم يكن ملائما لها أن تكون وحدها مع رجل مجهول. وقد ظننت أنه بما أننا من نفس الخلفية الثقافية كما أنا وعائلتي، فإنّ الوكيل العقاري سيتفهم وسيعرض موعدا مسائيا، حتى أضمن أن أكون متواجدا في المنزل، ولكنه لم يفعل. وقد بدا أن الوكيل العقاري يهزأ بي قائلا " أنا أثق بزوجتي" اشارة منه أنني لا أثق بزوجتي أو أن زوجتي ليست أهلا للثقة، في حين أن كل كنت أتمناه على الوكيل العقاري هو أن يكون حساسا تجاه المطالب الثقافية لأهل البيت.
لقد تلقيت بالفعل رسائل من الوكلاء العقاريين بخصوص الايجار، ولتأكيد الأمر طلبت يد العون من المجلس على الرغم أنهم كانوا بلا جدوى.

في يوم الأربعاء الموافق 20 نوفمبر 2012 كنت أتمشى لأحصل على بعض الهواء النقي. وفي ذلك الوقت تحديدا تلقيت مكالمة هاتفية مزعجة جدا من زوجتي، وقد بدت خائفة ومرهقة على الهاتف. لقد كانت وحدها في المنزل وقالت أنها تعتقد أن بعض الرجال كانوا يكسرون الباب. أخبرتها أن تتصل بالشرطة، ولكن زوجتي لا تتحدث الانجليزية جيدا لذا لا أظن أنها قد هاتفتهم.
وعلى محض الصدفة تماما، رأيت صديقي بسيارته، أشرت إليه ليتوقف وأخبرته أنني بحاجة للذهاب للمنزل لأن هناك رجال يحاولون كسر الباب الأمامي للمنزل وزوجتي وحدها وهي خائفة. وقد قال لي صديقي أنه يتوجب علي الاتصال بالشرطة. وبالفعل اتصلت بالشرطة وقلت لهم أن زوجتي مرعوبة لأن هناك رجال على الباب الأمامي يحاولون اقتحام المنزل. ولم تقدم الشرطة أي مساعدة وقالوا أنهم غير قادرين على المساعدة.
وبعد عشرة دقائق وصلت إلى منزلي، وطلبت من صديقي المغادرة لأني لم أرده أن يتورط في الأمر. وحينما وصلت منزلي كنت متوترا وقلقا ومرهقا، لأنني أجزم بأن زوجتي كانت مستاءة جدا وكانت بحاجة للمساعدة.
رأيت رجلا واقفا على الباب الأمامي، وقد عرفته لأنه كان يعمل لدى الوكلاء العقاريين، وعلى بعد 3 إلى 4 أمتار منه كان هناك شخص أعرفه على أنه قفّال. لقد كان ذلك مشهدا مرعبا لأن القفال كان يرتدي قناعا على رأسه لذا لا يمكنك رؤية كل وجهه.
أنا بصحة غير جيدة أبدا وأتعاطى الأدوية. ولست رجلا قويا
لم أصرخ قائلا " سأدمرك أيها المخنث". وفي هذه الأثناء كانت زوجتي حاضرة ولم أكن لأستخدم مثل هذه الكلمات أمام زوجتي.

لقد جاء الوكيل العقاري باتجاهي ورفعني بعنف، فقلت له " سوف أموت". فأبعدته عني لأنني كنت أجد صعوبة في التنفس.
لم ألكم الخد الأيمن للوكيل العقاري.
لم أقل للوكيل العقاري أنني سوف أضاجع زوجته، ولم أقل أيضا تبا للمكتب وتبا للمدير.
لا أعتقد أنني سببت ضرارا لجاكيت بدلة الوكيل العقاري. أعتقد أنها تمزقت بفعل برغي مكشوف.

The INTERACT Project, “Integration as a three-way process – the role of the countries and communities of origin in integration of Third Country Nationals in the EU,” (www.interact-project.eu) is a European research project co-financed by the European Fund of Integration. It is implemented by a consortium bringing together the Migration Policy Centre at the European University Institute (leader), CEDEM (Université de Liège), GRITIM (Universitat Pompeu Fabra) and Migration Policy Institute Europe. It looks at the impact of emigration and diaspora policies on integration outcomes in the EU. The project covers all 28 EU member states and the 55 third countries that each have more than 100,000 emigrants in the EU28.
The objective of the survey is to gather information both on the role of non-state actors in building ties with migrant communities in the EU, and on their support for the integration of these communities. We hope you will be willing to answer this online survey, since your experience in this organization is very relevant to our research project.
