Work Experience
01-09-1995 - Freelance Translation specialist
Over the last 20 years I have translated for a vast variety of businesses and with an average of 40.000 words per month. To name a few work experiences I had: Translation and revision of websites, press releases, catalogues-, commercial-, logistics-, technical-, medical- and scientific texts and journals. Several literary texts and translations for museums are part of my curriculum as well.
A few well-known companies I worked for are: Heineken, Shell, Unilever, Technical University of Twente, Technical University of Delft, Gemeente Museum Den Haag, La Place, Anova, Edeka, European Container Terminal (ECT) and many more.
01-09-2010 - 31-12-2013 Voluntary worker - Museum Beelden aan Zee in Scheveningen
01-09-1995 - 31-12-2006 Freelance German language and business culture trainer
Companies I worked for were Kennis van Zaken located in Alphen a/d Rijn of Interlingua located in Utrecht. Next to my work as a translator I created German courses on management level, where business culture and business conversations stood central. My main responsibilities were to make sure that the courses were of a high quality and delivered the expected result for the client. So that they could successfully communicate while having their next business encounters in Germany. Because of the vast diversity of businesses I trained, I gathered a lot of technical jargon in a lot of business fields (e.g. IT, agriculture, transport and logistics, tourism and so on).
Tourist guide in Delft
Next to giving group city tours through Delft I translated a lot of brochures, websites etc. for most of the companies that are connected to tourism in Delft.
01-09-2002 - 15-07-2004 Part-time teacher German language - Haagse Hoge School The Hague - Faculty of economics.
The lectures were mainly focused and driving business with German companies. So next to teaching the language with focus on business communication they were also highlighting the intercultural differences and aspects that should be taken into account. I created and wrote most of the teaching materials for years two, three and four, myself.
