Prior to becoming a freelance editor/translator I was on the faculties of the Universities of California (Berkeley), Michigan and Copenhagen, teaching world literature, English composition, French language and literature, comparative literature, literary theory and history, creative writing and graduate seminars in specialised topics in modern literature. I have written a book of literary criticism/history, a university writing manual and several articles.

As an editor, I have worked on books, reports, newsletters, research articles, dissertations, etc. in fields such as public health, clinical trials, journalism, autobiography, education, literature (autobiography) for large international organisations, educational institutions and private individuals. I have also been desk editor for an international literary journal and a journal of dental education.

As a translator, I have worked from French, Italian, Portuguese, Danish, Norwegian and Swedish into both US and UK English in areas including pharmaceuticals, medical devices, marketing, journalism, travel/hotels, transport and many others. I also do transcriptions and voiceovers in English.

In the US, I have lived in Pennsylvania, California and Massachusetts. Until recently, I lived in Denmark for 19 years and spent a year in Paris some time ago. I have also travelled to Brasil for music-related tours on four occasions.

In addition to the above, I am an active percussionist/drummer, playing drum set as well as congas, bongos, djembe, timbales, pandeiro, timbal, repinique, caixa and various other instruments in a percussion ensemble, a small bossa nova group, a jazz/blues trio and a large Brasilian-style samba group.
