Translation - English This time around, several witnesses on Tuesday reported to Radio Dabanga from the local district of Um Dukhan, to the local districts of Shatiya located in the South of Darfour and Oro in central Darfour, just southeast of Zalingei, about the hundreds of Misseriyan militias´ attack on ¨peaceful groups” (a.k.a Salamat) and a village nearby the city of Dkodouxa in the local region of Shatiya, just south of Darfour at 10:00am the preceding Wednesday morning. The Misseriya attacks led to the death of five members of the ¨Salamat” groups, in addition to other civil casualties, the arson of several village houses and “Salamat” groups in the Dkodouxa area. These clashes, which persisted until 3 o’clock in the afternoon according to eyewitness testimonies, were made possible with the aid of three Misseriya vehicles, tens of motorcyclists, camel and horseback riders, which was also reiterated by a witness to Radio Dabanga.
Further clashes have since broken out in central Darfour, as well as in the city of Oro situated close to Zalingei, resulting in the evacuation of hundreds of families from the village of Oro and other neighbouring villages towards Zalingei, where dozens of families were transported to camps located five minutes away. The Hamidiya, fearing that these attacks would spread to their district, requested that security and protection be mandated for their people. A local citizen reported that the clash began when a Misseriya monument was ambushed by the opposing “Salamat” tribe, followed by Misseriya´s retaliation of aimless [toward the sky], heavy open fire, that resulted in the wounding of one woman. Clashes nearby Zalingei resumed as a result of this casualty, feeding increased tension to the town´s residents who then reacted by closing their local department stores, for fear of the conflict spilling in to the city centre and toward Zalingei student-coordinator camp-sites. Via Radio Dabanga, UNAMID was delegated to patrol and stall the happenings immediately, in order to secure the camps and protect those organizations working in Almdjal that have appealed for humanitarian aid, in attempt to help both veteran and dozens of newly displaced families of the Zalingei camp-sites, as reported by Radio Dabanga´s Zalingei camp coordinator.
In the city of Zalingei, corresponding delegates of both the Misseriya and “Salamat” tribes continue to work towards formulating a peace-treaty ever since the conference began its sessions at the beginning of this month, when an initial peace agreement was drafted by the “Jaweed” committee to the respective tribes for consideration of their proposal with signatures to follow, pending both parties agreement.
