English to Chinese: Process improvement by optimal use of feeding systems General field: Tech/Engineering Detailed field: Chemistry; Chem Sci/Eng
Source text - English Understanding this, the company of Rexroth in Lohr (Germany) developed the first mini-risers in the early 1970s. With a wall thickness of 30% and upwards of the total diameter, the metal inside the risers stays more or less completely liquid until the end of the feeding process and almost no sink shrinkage appears in the riser. Given this effect, mini-risers can have a feeding performance or volume of suction up to 70%. This is not only a major improvement in terms of increasing the yield of the casting, but also offers substantially savings in fettling costs, as the cutting section to remove the riser is much smaller. (Fig. 6) As the first mini-risers could not be placed directly on the casting to avoid surface reactions of the exothermic material with the casting, the use of spring pins became standard for green sand molding lines. Today there are also formulations available that allow the risers to be placed directly on the casting surface.
English to Chinese: Contrived Stupidity Tropes General field: Art/Literary
Source text - English "The difference between genius and stupidity is that genius has its limits."
— Albert Einstein
All too often, a plot thread depends on one or more characters doing something really stupid. They don't have any chance of doing the smart thing, because then the plot-driving conflicts wouldn't happen.
Even if the stupidity is an organic outgrowth of prior characterization, that doesn't necessarily make it contrivance-free. As addressed in The Movie and lampshaded in the "Homer's Enemy" episode of The Simpsons, the continued tolerance of Homer by his friends, his family, and his employer — indeed, his very survival — is simply unbelievable at this point. Then again, Rule of Funny.
