Source text - English Master Plan
In addition to numerous bilateral talks, in Jakarta a presentation will be given on the Dutch and Indonesian Master Plan for National Capital Integrated Coastal Development (NCICD). The Master Plan is intended to protect Jakarta from water and to make integrated coastal development possible. The delegation will also be visiting the vulnerable coastal protection site in Jakarta, the port of Surabaya, and the Indonesian Meteorological, Climatological and Geophysical Agency: the BMKG. Seventeen Dutch companies and organisations from the water and port sectors* are accompanying the Minister. They hope to make a further contribution to the new hydraulic engineering and port development projects in Indonesia.
Challenges
Economically, for many years now Indonesia has recorded strong and stable growth. However, the country has numerous water problems. Increasing urbanisation is leading to pressure on the drinking water supply. Heavy rainfall combined with years of overdue maintenance on flood defences increases the possibility of flooding. In addition, the rate of land subsidence on Indonesia’s northern coastline is some 15 cm per year, due to groundwater extractions, and an increasingly larger section of the city is below sea level. Minister Schultz: “Great efforts are needed to protect the people of Jakarta from floods. The Netherlands, and Dutch companies and research institutions would like to lend assistance. Water offers us new opportunities for strengthening the ties between our two countries.”

Selain berbagai pembicaraan bilateral, sebuah presentasi akan disampaikan mengenai Rencana induk Belanda dan Indonesia untukNational Capital Integrated Coastal Development (NCICD). Rencana induk ini bertujuan untuk melindungi Jakarta dari sumber daya air dan mewujudkan pembangunan daerah pesisir terpadu. Para delegasi juga akan mengunjungi daerah perlindungan pesisir yang rentan di Jakarta, Pelabuhan Surabaya, dan Badan Meteorologi, Klimatologi, dan Geofisika (BMKG). Sebanyak tujuh belas perusahaan Belanda dan organisasi dari sektor sumber daya air dan pelabuhan* mendampingi Menteri. Tantangan
Di segi ekonomis, Indonesia telah mencatat pertumbuhan yang kuat dan stabil selama bertahun-tahun. Namun, negara ini memiliki banyak permasalahan sumber daya air. Meningkatnya urbanisasimenyebabkan permasalahanpada pasokanair minum. Hujan yang deras dikombinasikan dengan terbengkalainya pemeliharaan kanal banjir selama bertahun-tahun meningkatkan kemungkinan terjadinya banjir. Selain itu, tingkat penurunan tanah di pantai utara Indonesia sekitar 15 cm per tahun yang disebabkan oleh ekstraksi air tanah sehingga semakin besar wilayah kota (Jakarta) yang berada di bawah permukaan air laut. Menteri Schultz: “Diperlukan upaya besar untuk melindungi masyarakat Jakarta dari banjir. Negara Belanda, perusahaan-perusahaan dan lembaga risetBelanda ingin memberikan bantuan.
