Italian Asset Management Firm of the Year Award
for fifth year running
London, 18 October 2006 – Financial News, the leading weekly newspaper for the European securities and investment banking and asset management industry, today announced the winners of its fifth Awards for Excellence in Institutional Asset Management, and Pioneer Investments won the award for Italian Asset Management Firm of the Year for the fifth time in succession.
Pioneer is one of only two companies to have won the country category every year since the awards began in 2002 (the other being AXA Investment Managers).
The top 3 results for Italy in order of the highest number of votes received were:
Pioneer Investments won for the fifth year running, beating nearest rival Sao Paulo IMI into second place for the third year in succession.
Many of Europe’s leading players in the asset management industry attended the dinner in London where the awards were presented by Renée Schultes, Fund Management Editor of Financial News, together with representatives from sponsors Advent Software, Deutsche Bank and Factset.
A total of 20 awards were presented, covering European Asset Management Firm of the Year, awarded to Barclays Global Investors; Pension Fund of the Year, won by ABP; Asset Management Firm of the Year in France, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, the Netherlands and the Nordic countries, and Personality of the Year, awarded to Larry Fink, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of BlackRock.
Guest speaker at this year’s awards dinner at London’s Guildhall was Donald Putnam, Managing Partner of merchant bank Grail Partners, which specialises in the investment management industry and related businesses.

Methodology
Financial News assembled a distinguished panel of more than 40 pension fund consultants, fund management executives and marketers from across Europe to vote on the nominated fund management groups in each of the 20 categories.
In each category, Financial News' team of five specialist fund management journalists and its correspondents across continental Europe compiled a shortlist of between five and ten candidates in each category.
Panellists voted anonymously on each award, giving the short-listed candidates a score out of five. Panellists were also able to nominate their own choice of candidate in each award. The local awards were decided by panels of local executives in each country (who were also invited to vote on the main pan-European awards).
The winner in each category was the firm with the highest overall score.

Il Financial News si è avvalso di un illustre pannello di oltre 40 consulenti di fondi pensione, investitori della gestione di fondi e operatori qualificati di tutta Europa per votare i gruppi nominati nel settore del fund management per ciascuna delle 20 categorie.
Per ogni categoria, il team del Financial News, composto da cinque giornalisti specializzati nella gestione dei fondi e i loro corrispondenti europei hanno redatto una rosa di candidati compresa tra cinque e dieci persone.
I partecipanti hanno inoltre votato nell’anonimato per ogni riconoscimento assegnando ai canditati presenti nella lista ristretta un punteggio da uno a cinque, riuscendo anche a nominare il candidato di loro scelta per ciascun premio. A livello locale, i premi venivano aggiudicati in base alle valutazioni fornite da un campione di dirigenti per ogni paese (che sono stati anche invitati a votare per i principali premi paneuropei).
