I am a native Spanish speaker from Venezuela who has lived in Australia for 14 years. My area of expertise is in travel and tourism as I worked as a travel consultant for the last 13 years. During this time I translated a lot of documents, mainly brochures, itineraries and operation manuals from English to Spanish and vice versa.
I am currently undertaking a Masters in Applied Linguistics at Monash University in Australia and I am already eligible for a Graduate diploma. I have only one more subject to go to finalise my studies; so I can confidently say I have a solid knowledge in Linguistics and language use in general. Subjects already completed are:
- General Linguistics (Phonetics, Phonology, Syntax, Semantics, Pragmatics);
- Language and Society (Sociolinguistics);
- Literacy;
- Methods of Research in Linguistics (qualitative and quantitative);
- The Analysis of Discourse (Conversation analysis and text analysis). This last subject is closely related to translation techniques in general.
I am preparing to sit for my exam to become a sworn translator in Australia (NAATI accredited) from Spanish to English . Therefore at this stage I am trying to get to know the field of translation in general and stablish some networking connections which my generate into future collaborations.
I will let you know once I have obtained my accrediation, which as some of you may know is extremely difficult! |
