ALLOWABLE STRESS CALCULATION Sh = Basic material allowable stress at maximum temperature from Appendix A of ANSI/ASME B31.3 Sc = Cold allowable f = Stress range reduction factor for cyclic conditions Allowable stresses for different load categories are calculated, according to the Code, as follows: 1- Allowable stress for sustained loads (SL) = Sh 2- Allowable stress for expansion loads (SE)= f (1.25 Sc 0.25 Sh) At this point, the program adds a third formula: - Allowable stress for sustained expansion loads = f (1.25 Sc 1.25 Sh) For f=1 (no cyclic condition occurs in the current analysis), the formula is equivalent to the sum of the allowable stresses 1 and 2. It can therefore be neglected, because if the allowable stresses 1 and 2 are met, also the third will. 1.4.3. SUMMARY Following is reported a summary of the calculated stresses and their allowable values according to the Code and the consideration at point 4.2. - SL= Sh - SE = f (1.25 Sc 0.25 Sh) 1.5. LOADS 1.5.1. LOADS TYPE Here follows a detailed explanation of loads relevant for the analysis according to B31.3 Code. Sustained loads The relevant loads for this condition are the design pressure, following named ‘pressure’ (P), and the resultant moment loading on cross section. As for the latter, following named ‘dead weight’ (DW), it is given by the sum of the following loads (when occur):  Self-weight: it’s the weight of the tube itself and is always automatically calculated by the program.  Insulation: it’s the weight of the outer insulation calculated multiplying its density by the volume, where the volume depends on the outside diameter of the tube and the thickness of the insulation.  Content weight: it’s the weight of what flows inside the tubes and it’s calculated as the inner tube volume multiplied by a weight factor. This last is expressed as the ratio between the density of the contents and the one of the water, given the water density equal to 1.  Concentrated weights: valves and other in-line equipments  Given loads Expansion load The relevant load for this condition is the range of resultant moment due to thermal expansion. Following named ‘thermal’ (EXP), this load is due to the operating temperature. Thermal load cases are checked according to system transients and design temperatures. Temperatures represent a conservative envelop of all possible thermal conditions for the examined lines. Further loads To perform building settlement analysis or seismic anchor movement, three displacement cases are accepted by the program. These displacement (D) cases may represent thermal expansion, seismic anchor movement or structural settlement. For Code compliance consideration, the program categorizes displacement cases according to how they are combined with other cases. For example, if displacement is combined with a thermal case, then it will be considered as thermal displacement.	Translation - French 1.4.2. CHARGES 1.5.1. TYPES DE CHARGES Ci-dessous une explication détaillée des charges pertinente pour l'analyse selon la Norme B31.3. Charges soutenues Les charges utiles pour cette condition sont la pression de service, ci-après nommée «pression» (P), et le moment résultant s'exerçant sur la section transversale. Quant à ce dernier, ci-après nommé «poids mort» (DW), il est donné par la somme des charges suivantes (lorsqu'il y a lieu) :  Poids propre : C'est le poids du tube lui-même et est toujours calculé automatiquement par le programme.  Isolation : C'est le poids de l'isolation extérieure calculé en multipliant sa densité par le volume, le volume étant fonction du diamètre extérieur du tube et de l'épaisseur de l'isolation.  Poids du contenu : C'est le poids de ce qui circule à l'intérieur des tubes et est donné par le volume interne du tube multiplié par un facteur de poids. Ce dernier est exprimé par le rapport entre la densité du contenu et celle de l'eau, la densité de l'eau étant égale à 1.  Poids concentrés : Vannes et autres équipements de ligne  Charges données Charge de dilatation La charge utile pour cette condition est l'étendue de variation du moment résultant crée par la dilatation thermique. Ci-après nommée «thermique» (EXP), cette charge est due à la température de fonctionnement. Les différents cas de charge thermique sont vérifiés selon les états transitoires du système et les températures de calcul. Les températures représentent une enveloppe conservatrice de toutes les conditions thermiques possibles pour les lignes examinées. Autres charges Pour effectuer une analyse de l'affaissement du bâtiment ou le mouvement sismique des ancrages, trois cas de déplacement sont acceptés par le programme. Ces cas de déplacement (D) peuvent représenter la dilatation thermique, le mouvement sismique des ancrages ou l’affaissement structural. Pour ce qui est de l'examen de la conformité à la Norme, le programme classe les cas de déplacement en fonction de la façon dont ils sont combinés avec d'autres cas. Par exemple, si le déplacement est associé à un cas thermique, il sera considéré comme un déplacement thermique.
