Translation - English APP#6-Cover Story - Reducing the Production Cost by Improving the Administration
Plastic injection is regarded as a growing industry that is fundamental for other industries such as automobile, electronics, and food and medicine. The number of producers in this area has become greater accordingly. However, due to the extremely competitive market, many of them have gone out of businesses. It is a challenging task to cope with consumer demands where both experience and effort are highly required in both management and production areas.
Thitikorn Limchimchol (Ph.D.) Assistant Managing Director, Hi-Q Plas Co.,Ltd. stated that the competition in plastic production for electronic industry will be even greater in 2008. Due to the current weak economy condition, many customers want to acquire cheaper goods with a consistency in quality. Accordingly, finding ways to reduce the production cost without interfering with the standard of the goods would be a challenging task for the industry.
Quality of the Staff is Our Priority
As the company sees that the manufacturing cost reduction is a reasonable option for the customers, a plan of conducting a new administrative system called ‘Six Sigma’ is being considered to improve the production process. The concept of system is to focus on having least damages as possible by closely controlling every step from manufacturing to distributing.
However, the system would not be achievable without responsible cooperative staff. Therefore the company is giving its staff a priority by providing them a professional training.
Moreover, Information Technology will be introduced to reduce number of documents and to speed up the communication process. And depending on how prepared the staff will be, the company is also considering to be interactive with customers online where the customers can follow up their own orders.
“In order to improve their leadership and rational skills, the company schedules a monthly meeting with the staff in which they will be brainstorming new ideas and finding solutions to any difficulties on their jobs.”
We Do Difficult Jobs - Fast
Forty percent of our products are distributed to electronic industry both nationally and internationally, and the other sixty percent is distributed to automobile industry. Every piece of our products has to go through the quality control sector and the quality guarantee sector who will test each item whether they meet the customer standard or not. Customers usually acquire complex and specified products, and they also want them quick - which hi-tech machineries and equipments are required. The company is a subsidy of Besco Group who specialises in this area. Each year, our staffs are sent to be trained with the group in many areas such as production planning, manufacturing, and quality control. The group provides a complete range of services that has specialists in many areas including mould designing, spraying and printing.
Appealing against overloaded Chinese products
Apart from satisfying customers with our products, the company sees the importance in alliance with all suppliers and customers, which is our ideal of business strategy. At the beginning of every project, a meeting between the supplier, the customer and the company is scheduled to discuss about the job and any problems that may occur during the whole process and to come up with solutions in advance.
In 2008, the company is considering to expand the international market such as in the US because the old market now is getting more and more extremely competitive.
Lastly, Thitikorn Limchimchol (Ph.D.) has a request for a help to the new government about how Thai industry is being confronted by imported goods - especially from China, Vietnam and India. This has become greater of an issue after the FTA agreement as importation is now more convenient than ever. Although their prices are cheaper, the quality of Chinese products is still low. However, catching up with Thai products in term of quality will not be long as now many producers set up their factories in China, therefore new technology will become more available over there than in Thailand. In the future, the competition will become more serious without any importing prevention measure authorised by the new government.
