Source text - English There was one scene where he committed suicide on the stage.
He played the part of a young girl and, in this scene, wore his wig and a white kimono.
What he did was to undo the wig, take a strand of hair from either side and put them through his mouth thus making a cross.
He then took a large curved sword and held it at his throat.
Standing in place, he suddenly started to twirl with that sword at his head. To give the impression of cutting his head off he twirled round and round and round and suddenly stopped absolutely dead still.
His head fell a little to one side, his eyes crossed, then he held there and the curtain came down. We really felt that the head was severed from the body, that he had cut his head off.
I don't know how one could act that "with feeling" to inspire more terror in the audience. We couldn't applaud, we couldn't do anything. We were terrified!
Certainly, the audience should also, then, share the truly-experienced emotions of our realistic actors.
Now isn't this emphasis on self-indulgent feeling the result of a false concept of "psychological truth," which may mean the actor' s psychology and not the truth of art at all (because the elements of art are not present)?
All is brought to one's own understanding of the moment, to one's own level. It is not the author's, or even the character's, thinking, but the actor's own.
This happens often even in the plays of realistic modern authors. All of their thoughts and ideas are brought to the particular psychological concept of the actor involved.
What happens when we reach Shakespeare's realm?
Translation - Italian C'era una scena dove si suicidava sul palcoscenico.
Stava interpretando la parte di una ragazzina, e in questa scena indossava una parrucca e un kimono bianco.
Quello che ha fatto è stato di sciogliere la parrucca, prendere una ciocca di capelli da entrambi i lati e metterli in bocca formando una croce.
Poi ha afferrato una grande spada ricurva e la teneva all'altezza della gola.
Restando fermo, ha improvvisamente iniziato a far volteggiare la spada intorno alla testa. Per dare l’impressione che la stesse tagliando l’ha fatta roteare in tondo e in tondo e in tondo e improvvisamente si è immobilizzato completamente, fermo come un morto.
La testa si è piegata di lato, gli occhi si sono incrociati, è rimasto un po’ così e poi si è chiuso il sipario. Avevamo davvero avuto l’impressione che la testa si fosse separata dal corpo, che l’avesse davvero tagliata via.

Senz'altro, il pubblico a quel punto, dovrebbe anche condividere le emozioni vissute davvero dei nostri attori realistici.
Ora, non è questa enfasi a sentirsi indulgenti con se stessi, il risultato di un falso concetto di “verità psicologica”, che potrebbe riferirsi alla psicologia dell'attore e non alla mera verità dell'arte (perché gli elementi artistici non sono presenti)?
Tutto è portato alla sola propria comprensione del momento, al proprio solo livello. Non è quello dell’autore, o perfino del personaggio, ma proprio dell’attore stesso.
Questo succede spesso persino nelle opere di autori realistici moderni. Tutti i loro pensieri e idee sono portate al particolare concetto psicologico dell’attore coinvolto.
