English to Arabic: Alternative Medicine General field: Medical
Source text - English Alternative medicine describes any practice that aims to achieve the healing effects of medicine, but which lacks biological plausibility and is untested or untestable. In some cases AM treatments are proven ineffective. Complementary medicine (CM), complementary and alternative medicine (CAM), integrated medicine or integrative medicine (IM), and holistic medicine are among many rebrandings of the same phenomenon. Alternative therapies share in common that they reside outside medical science, and rely on pseudoscience. Alternative medicine is distinct from experimental medicine, which employs the scientific method to test plausible therapies by way of responsible and ethical clinical trials, producing evidence of either effect or of no effect. Research into alternative treatments often fails to follow proper research protocol and denies calculation of prior probability, providing invalid results. Traditional practices become "alternative" when used outside their original settings without proper scientific explanation and evidence. Frequently used derogatory terms for the alternative are new-age or pseudo, with little distinction from quackery.
In some cases, the claims of alternative practices violate laws of nature; in others, the practice is plausibly effective but so dangerous to the patient that any use is unethical. Alternative practices often resort to the supernatural or superstitious to explain their effect, and range from ineffective to harmful and toxic (e.g. cyanide poisoning from amygdalin, or the intentional ingestion of hydrogen peroxide).
Much of the perceived effect of an alternative practice arises from a belief that it will be effective (the placebo effect), or from the treated condition resolving on its own (the natural course of disease). This is further exacerbated by the tendency to turn to alternative treatments upon the failure of medicine, at which point the condition will be at its worst and most likely to spontaneously improve. In the absence of this bias, especially for diseases that are not expected to get better by themselves such as cancer or HIV infection, multiple studies have shown significantly worse outcomes if patients turn to alternative therapies. While this may be because these patients avoid effective treatment, some alternative treatments actively interfere with effective ones.
Translation - Arabic يصف مصطلح الطب البديل أي ممارسة تهدف إلى تحقيق التأثيرات الشافية للأدوية، ولكنها تفتقر إلى المعقولية البيولوجية، ولم تخضع للاختبار أو يتعذّر اختبارُها. وفي بعض الحالات، ثبتت عدم فاعلية علاجات الطب البديل. والطب التكميلي CM))، والطب التكميلي والبديل CAM))، والطب المتكامل أو الطب التكاملي (IM)، والطب الشمولي من بين تسميات كثيرة للظاهرة نفسها. والقاسم المشترك بين العلاجات البديلة أنّها تدور خارج فلك العلوم الطبية، وتعتمد على العلم الزائف. والطب البديل مختلف عن الطب التجريبي الذي يتبع المنهج العلمي لاختبار علاجات معقولة عبر تجارب سريرية مسؤولة وأخلاقية تتمخّض عنها أدلة تفيد بوجود تأثير لتلك العلاجات أو غياب أي تأثير. وفي الغالب، لا تتبع البحوث التي تتناول العلاجات البديلة البروتوكولات البحثية الصحيحة، وترفض حساب الاحتمالات المسبقة، ما يعطي نتائج باطلة. وتغدو الممارسات التقليدية "بديلة" عندما تستخدم خارج سياقاتها الأصلية وتنأى عن التفسيرات العلمية والأدلة السليمة. وكثيرًا ما يُنعت الطب البديل بألفاظ تنمّ عن الازدراء، من قبيل مُحدَث أو زائف، والتي لا تفرّقه كثيرًا عن الدجل.
في بعض الأحيان، تخرق مزاعمُ الممارسات البديلة قوانين الطبيعة، وفي أحيان أخرى، تكون الممارسة فعالة في الظاهر، ولكنها خطرة للغاية على المريض لدرجة تجعل أي استخدامٍ لها منافيًا للأخلاق. تلجأ الممارسات البديلة في الغالب إلى الخوارق أو الخرافات لتفسير مفعولها، وتتراوح بين السامة وعديمة الجدوى (من أمثلة ذلك التسمم بالسيانيد نتيجة استخدام الأميغدالين، أو الابتلاع المقصود لبيروكسيد الهيدروجين).
ينبع التأثير المحسوس للممارسات البديلة في معظمه من اعتقادٍ بأنها ستكون فعالة (التأثير الوهمي)، أو من شفاء الحالة من تلقاء نفسها (المسار الطبيعي للمرض). وما يزيد الطين بِلّة الميلُ إلى اللجوء إلى العلاجات البديلة فور فشل العلاج الطبي، وحينئذٍ تكون الحالة في أسوء صورها ومن المرجح أن تتحسّن تلقائيًا. وفي غياب هذه النزعة نحو الشفاء، ولا سيّما في حالات الأمراض التي لا يُتوقّع أن تتحسّن حالة المريض المصاب بها من تلقاء نفسها، كالسرطان أو الإصابة بفيروس نقص المناعة البشرية، أوضحت العديد من الدراسات نتائج أسوء بكثيرٍ في حال لجوء المرضى لعلاجات بديلة. وفي حين أن هذا قد يُعزى إلى امتناع المرضى عن العلاج الفعّال، إلا أن بعض العلاجات البديلة تتداخل بشدّة مع العلاجات الفعّالة.
