Source text - English The cobas® Factor II and Factor V Test is an in vitro diagnostic device that uses real-time Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) for the detection and genotyping of the human Factor II (Prothrombin) G20210A mutation and the human Factor V Leiden mutation, from genomic DNA obtained from K2EDTA whole blood specimens, as an aid in diagnosis of patients with suspected thrombophilia. The cobas® Factor II and Factor V Test and the cobas z 480 analyzer are used together for automated amplification and detection.
Thrombophilia is a condition with a predisposition to develop thrombosis (e.g., blood clots) due to either an inherited or acquired defect in the coagulation system. Blood clots may form in either the venous or arterial vascular system and can lead to Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) and Pulmonary Embolism (PE). Collectively, DVT and PE are known as Venous Thromboembolism (VTE).1 VTE is the third most common cause of cardiovascular death after acute coronary syndrome and stroke.
