Bio

My name is Daniel Dolenský and I am an interpreter and translator. My working languages are Czech (my native language) and English.

I have a master's degree from The Faculty of Arts of the Charles University in Prague, where I studied Translation Studies, focusing on English (and specialising in interpreting), and Czech Studies. The Institute of Translation Studies is the best and most prestigious institution providing a training for translators and interpreters in the Czech Republic; in combination with the study of Czech linguistics and literature this means I am not only proficient in both languages (which is, of course, natural in my mother tongue), but also well versed in their theory.

I offer professional, high quality and reliable interpreting and translation services, in both languages and both ways, for virtually any occasion and on any topic. Due to the nature of my studies, I am naturally most at home in social sciences, but even highly technical texts and speeches are no major obstacle (I am a lifelong fan of IT, for example), providing there was enough time for preparation.

I have interpreted for example for the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports of the Czech Republic, the Metropolitan University, Prague, the Academic Senate of the Czech Technical University or the Wüstenrot insurance company. As a translator and interpreter, I have been working for the Loutkář / Puppeteer magazine and Prague's Institute of Arts - Theatre Institute for several years.

Admittedly more as a hobby than a full-time job, I have always been interested in literary translation and translation criticism. I have translated two Mark Twain stories for a selection called Jak chytit splín (A Cure for the Blues) and edited the second edition of a collection of Native American folk tales translated by Jáchym Topol, called Trnová dívka (Splinter Foot Girl); I am working on other books occasionally. I have written several articles of translation criticism for the Plav magazine.
