Source text - English Rare Forms of Obesity
Some rare forms of severe obesity are caused by mutations in single genes (monogenic forms of obesity). Currently, six different genes leading to severe obesity have been identified, including the leptin, the leptin receptor, and the melanocortin 4-receptor genes. Altogether, these rare monogenic forms of obesity account for less than 1% of all cases of obesity and will probably not be the target for most public health programs.
Genetics of Taste
Taste reception is genetically influenced and can influence our dietary behaviour. One well-studied example of PTC (phenylithiocarbamide), a bitter compound that only some people can taste. Individuals who can taste PTC are more likely to avoid certain foods that also taste bitter, such as cruciferous vegetables.

Niektóre rzadkie postacie ciężkiej otyłości wywołane są przez mutacje w pojedynczych genach (tzw. monogeniczne postacie otyłości). Obecnie zidentyfikowano sześć różnych typów genów odpowiedzialnych za ciężkie przypadki otyłości, a wśród nich: leptynę, receptor leptyny oraz geny receptora melanokortyny-4. W sumie te rzadkie monogeniczne formy otyłości odpowiedzialne są za mniej niż 1 procent wszystkich przypadków i z tego względu najprawdopodobniej nie staną się celem akcji zdrowotnych służących walce z otyłością.
Genetyka smaku
Odczuwanie smaku jest uwarunkowane genetycznie i ma wpływ na nasze nawyki żywieniowe. Jednym z najlepiej zbadanych przykładów jest PTC (fenylotiokarbamid) – gorzki w smaku organiczny związek chemiczny, odczuwany tylko przez niektórych ludzi. Jednostki wrażliwe na PTC będą również wykazywać tendencję do unikania produktów żywnościowych o gorzkim smaku, jak np. warzyw z rodziny krzyżowych.
