Křivůtka, bouloň
Květy Achimenes vznikají v ramenech listů, jsou tvořeny dlouhou trubicí, která se rozbíhá v pět širokých kališních lístků. V obchodech je nabízena široká paleta barev, často
s kontrastním ´okem´v centru květu. Jednotlivé květy žijí sice krátce,
rostliny však kvetou po celé léto. Úzké stonky silně bytní, nesou rozložité, kopinaté nebo okrouhlé listy se zvlněným okrajem, zbarvení bývá středně až tmavozelené či měděné. Achimenes má
kuželovitý oddenek, který se plošně rozprostírá přímo pod svrchní vrstvou substrátu. Po odkvětu přecházejí rostliny do klidového stádia.
° Oddenek můžeme po ukončení fáze květu vyjmout z květináče a nechat přezimovat v suché rašelině a nebo v písku. Na jaře zasadíme do čerstvé půdy a hojně zaléváme.

Převislé, řezané listy Aechmea fasciata jsou pokryty stříbřitou vrstvou a vykazují se zeleným páskováním. Ve věku čtyř let vyrůstá z centra okvětní růžice stonek s květenstvím. Fialové květy vyrážejí mezi růžově zbarvenými listeny. Listy druhu ´Variegata´ jsou ještě působivější: Ve středu mají široký opasek ze zelených a krémové zbarvených proužků, které se rozprostírají do celé délky listu.
° Po té, co růžice vytvoří květy, odumírá. Na matečné rostlině vznikají odnože, pomocí kterých je možno rostlinu množit.

The sad thing is how little times seem to have changed. We are still shockingly ignorant about the world in which we play so dominant a role, and our children's future may rest on ending the cycle. Teachers, schools, reporters and opinion shapers are still too often in the grip of the colonial mindset. Some even still use the embarrassingly outdated lexicon of imperialism: tribe, clan, dialect, and the works, all constructs of deliberate or dismissive attempts to delegitimize conquered peoples. Even the myth of journalistic "balance" should require the abandonment of such sloppiness or invoke standards that are patently absurd. Are the Serbs a "tribe?" The Czechs? Even Liechtenstein and Monaco get the respect that seems to elude Africans. No one refers to the Windsors as a "clan." Hell, even a few Superbowl wins in a row qualifies as a "Dynasty." And the French, Spanish, Portuguese and Italians don´t speak "dialects," even though their languages are far more interrelated than the hundreds of complex and varied African languages...

Ze svého mládí si pamatuje na opakující se frázi "vzpurný Konžan", po té přechází k dokumentům, jejichž stopáž téměř ve všech případech zobrazuje skupinu Afričanů na útěku z belgických tropů.
Je smutné, jak málo věcí se změnilo. Stále jsme neuvěřitelně ignoranští vůči světu, ve kterém hrajeme tak rozhodující roli a budoucnost našich dětí by mohla spočívat v dokončení tohoto cyklu.
