General field: Science
Detailed field: Biology (-tech,-chem,micro-)

The Socios En Salud Laboratory has undergone the 2013 College of American Pathologists’ annual external quality control assessment and has again achieved 100% concordance for analyzed samples.

These assessments help us sustain our pursuit of excellence as part of SES’s clinical research strategy. External quality control assessments support the SES Lab’s capacity for diagnosis using smear microscopy and culture tests, M. tuberculosis complex identification, as well as determination of susceptibility to second-line drugs using 7H11 Agar in plates.

The next annual assessment will be notable for including determination of susceptibility to first-line drugs. The lab’s prior result for this testing was 100%.

The SES lab recently began operations and is dedicated exclusively to TB diagnosis and characterization of anti-TB drug resistance. SES is therefore honored to have a quality laboratory playing a key role in the improvement of national public health.

Bio

I am a versatile, talented, and conscientious Spanish and French to English translator with over 14 years of experience: 2.5 years in-house at Partners In Health and over 12 years freelancing.

My clients include the US National Institutes of Health, language service providers, and companies.
These clients rely on my ability write clear, stylistically appropriate translations for their target audiences; to review my work rigorously to ensure quality; and to deliver their translations on time.

I specialize in public health, life sciences, agriculture, energy (oil, gas, renewables), finance, and international development: protocols, consent/assent forms, monitor reports, regulatory submissions and decisions, project proposals, journal articles, correspondence, contracts, technical manuals, procedures, press releases, and media reports.

I work weekdays at the Center for Biostatistics in AIDS Research (CBAR) at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, where I am a member of the Quality Team and serve as a proofreader and editor for colleagues. I often devote evenings and weekends to translation projects.

I have been involved in numerous international projects in more than 10 countries and worked with many translators and interpreters. Stephen’s linguistic ability, attention to detail, and professionalism made him an excellent facilitator of my communications with the Lima team. I would welcome the opportunity to work with Stephen again.

The Director of the Massachusetts Supranational TB Reference Laboratory and Consultant to the Partners In Health study Epidemiology of Multidrug-resistant Tuberculosis in Peru.

I have had the pleasure to review Stephen's work. He is a careful, skillful and knowledgeable translator, highly specialized in scientific documents. Stephen has the capacity to defend his choices in a very professional manner. He is also open to receive feedback and accommodate his client's preferences.
