I graduated in 1987 with a joint honours degree in French and Spanish. I spent the next 17 years living in Spain. I returned to the UK in October 2004.
My languages:
English: native
Spanish: near native
German: fluent
French: fluent
Portuguese: advanced (degree course option)
Catalan: advanced
During my time in Spain, I worked as a translator part-time 1987-1996 and full-time 1997-2001. Particular translations of note would be the complete 360-page guide for the Asturias Pavilion at EXPO '92 or the contract for dredging work carried out in Nicaragua in the aftermath of El Niño.
However, as a full-time translator, I translated mostly technical, marketing and IT-related files from German or Spanish into English (DE/ES>EN). See my curriculum vitae. Due to excessive workloads, as of May 2007 I will be translating only Spanish texts.
I am able to produce a weekly output of 10-15,000 words.
I also offer a consecutive and simultaneous interpreting service.
My other work has been in music. I now have a large selection of instruments and hi-tech equipment for studio and live applications, voice-overs, advertising and film. I am currently studying for a qualification in media composition.
