Source text - Czech Návštěvník Brna, který v jeho ulicích hledá stopy prastarého židovského osídlení, příliš hmatatelných historických památek nenajde.
A přece Židé ve městě Brně žili určitě už ve 13. století, za vlády Přemysla Otakara II., který je vzal pod svou ochranu a nechal jim vymezit ghetto v okolí dnešní dolní části Masarykovy ulice. Panovník nad nimi sice držel ochrannou ruku, ale Židé měli za povinnost odevzdávat mu nemalé daně.
V roce 1454 se všechno změnilo: Židé byli králem Ladislavem Pohrobkem vypovězení ze všech královských měst, tedy i z Brna. Původní synagoga byla zbourána a na jejím místě vyrostl později kostel Maří Magdalény. Existenci Židů v Brně potom ještě dlouhou dobu připomínala městská brána zvaná židovská, jeden z pěti vstupů za hradby města Brna.

Carmen Muñoz poznala Juana Gonzálese na jaře roku, ve kterém se přemnožili divocí psi a který předcházel velké potopě. Psi pobíhali po polích v takovém množství, že ničili zasetou úrodu, vykukovali odevšad, měli dobrácké oči a vyplazený jazyk a nebylo zcela jasné, čím se v takovém množství živili. Lidé si na ně zvykli, kopali do nich místo do kamenů u cesty a napřesrok, kdy se jich většina při potopě utopila či odplavala neznámo kam, na jejich kousky často vzpomínali.
Carmen si přišla pro Juana k telekomunikační věži, pod kterou Juan často na bobku sedával. Toho dne se nemohl příliš soustředit na svá obvyklá pozorování mravenců a motýlů.
“Miluji tvé oči” řekla mu a přisedla si naproti.
“A ramena?” ptal se nedůvěřivě.
“Ramena taky, máš nejkrásnější ramena na světě. Bez tvých ramen můj život nic neznamená.” přesvědčovala jej, “Jestli je nějaká jiná bude chtít obejmout poženu jí skopetou. Celý život jsem na tebe čekala.”
Juan pokrčil rameny a vydal se domů s Carmen.
A ubíhal den za dnem. V noci spolu spávali v těsném objetí a ve dne plánovali, jak oslaví výročí svého seznámení a sňatku. “Miluji tvé oči” říkávala mu Carmen každý den. “A ramena?” ptával se Juan nedůvěřivě. “Ramena máš nejkrásnější na světě, bez tebe můj život nic neznamená, celý život jsem na tebe čekala, jestli se k tobě dcera zelináře ještě jednou přiblíží poženu ji skopetou.” odpovídala Carmen i v době, kdy se dcera zelináře provdala neznámo kam.
Ubíhal den za dnem. Juan zpočátku ze zvyku ještě nějakou dobu chodil pozorovat motýly a mravence pod telekomunikační věž a po čase zcela zapomněl, proč pod komunikační věž chodí. “Miluješ mé oči?” ptával se Carmen. “Bez tebe můj život nic neznamená” říkala Carmen a v noci se probouzela ze snů, ve kterých jí pronásledoval ďábel v různých podobách. Juan přestával spát úplně a Carmen začala studovat telepatický kurs zdravé výživy, učila se rozeznávat vepřové od hovězího, určovat, kdy přijde konec světa a zcela zapomínala na oslavy sňatku a seznámení. Telepatický učitel byl však s pokroky Carmen nespokojen “Kdosi, blízko vás, vám brání v rozletu, omezuje vás. Kupte si novou sukni a energetickou tyčinku podle katalogu”. Jakmile přišel balíček s novou sukní a energetickou tyčinkou sdělila Juanovi, že se nenechá držet v kleci a dál snášet jeho omezování, nenechá si dále bránit v rozletu. “Bez Carmen můj život nic neznamená”, napadlo Juana, “má krásné oči”. Ještě jednou pak zaslechl to, co byl sám zvyklý roky slýchávat, ale to už se netýkalo jeho očí a jeho ramen. A nebylo to určeno jeho uším.
A ubíhal den za dnem. Toho roku se přemnožili divocí psi, byli vyhladovělí, někteří útočili na lidi. Juan chodil pravidelně k telekomunikační věži, počítal bez zájmu motýly a mravence, ale nikdo se neukazoval.
Translation - English Misunderstanding
Carmen Muñoz met Juan Gonzáles met in the spring of the year the wild dogs infested and that preceded the great flood. Dogs were running through the fields in such quantities destroying the sown crops, they peered out from everywhere, they had kindly eyes and lolling tongues, and it was not clear how so many were fed. People got used to them, kicked them out of the way instead of stones and the next year, when most of them drowned in the flood or swam off to who knows where, their antics were often remembered.
Carmen came for Juan to the telecommunications tower, which Juan often sat under on his haunches. That day he couldn't concentrate too well on his usual observation of ants and butterflies.
"I love your eyes," she said and sat down opposite him.
"And my shoulders?" he asked incredulously.
"Your shoulders, too, you have the most beautiful shoulders in the world. "Without your shoulders my life means nothing." She assured him, "If anyone else wanted to hug them, I'd chase her off with a rifle. My whole life, I've been waiting for you. "
Juan shrugged and went home with Carmen.
And day after day passed. At night, they slept together in a tight embrace and by day they planned how to celebrate the anniversaries of meeting and their wedding. "I love your eyes," Carmen told him every day. "And my shoulders?" Juan would ask incredulously. "Your shoulders are the most beautiful in the world, without you my life means nothing, my whole life I've been waiting for you, if the greengrocer's daughter comes up to you again I'll chase her off with a rifle." answered Carmen even when the greengrocer's daughter was getting married to who knows where.
And day after day passed. Juan, initially out of habit, for some time, went to observe the butterflies and ants under the telecommunications tower and over time he completely forgot why he went to the telecommunications tower. "Do you love my eyes?" he would ask Carmen. "Without you my life means nothing" said Carmen and at night she woke from dreams in which she was being chased by the devil in different forms. Juan stopped sleeping altogether and Carmen started studying a telepathic course about healthy eating, learning to distinguish pork from beef, to determine when the end of the world would come and she completely forgot the celebration of their wedding and their meeting. The telepathic teacher was not satisfied with Carmen's progress, "Someone close to you is preventing you from flying, they are restricting you. Buy a new skirt and energy bars from the catalogue." Once the package came with a new skirt and the energy bars, she told Juan that she wouldn't allow herself to be kept in a cage and to continue to endure his restraints, she would no longer allow herself to be prevented from flying. "Without Carmen my life means nothing," thought Juan, "she has beautiful eyes." Její stavba trvala necelý rok a 20. září se konečně představí veřejnosti. Nová pasáž nákupního a zábavního centra Olympia přinese do Brna nové standardy v nakupování a mimo jiné bude znamenat, že Brno získá druhé největší nákupní centrum v zemi.
Dostavba centra, které se přezdívalo Fáze III, trvala deset měsíců. Už od jara 2006 mohli návštěvníci zaznamenat v centru v jižné zóně města čilý stavební ruch, přesto komfort nakupování nebyl nikterak omezen. Jak zdůrazňuje ředitelka centra Pavla Bumbálková, nebylo vůbec lehké skloubit provoz se stavbou. „Nemohli jsme si dovolit, aby návštěvníci v centru zažili jakoukoli nepohodu,“ dodává. Na druhou stranu bylo důležité návštěvníky o stavbě informovat, nechat je do plánů nahlédnout. „Použili jsme k tomu prosklené okýnko ve zdi do rozestavěné pasáže,“ říká s úsměvem Aleš Navrátil.
Nová pasáž se od té současné architektonicky příliš lišit nebude, v Olympii zachovávají jednotný styl. „Opět jsme spolupracovali s britským architektem Clarkem Geddesem, který kdysi vtisknul podobu už starší části centra,“ říká Aleš Navrátil. Vzdušný prostor pasáží tak budou opět lemovat palmy a zeleň, dominantní tmavě modrá barva a výhled proskleným stropem evokují pohodu Středomoří. Co možná v nové pasáží překvapí, bude vegetace. Zatímco v původní části centra jsou menší palmy, v té nové potkáte sedm obřích palem, z nichž dvě dosahují výšky až 11 metrů. „Museli jsme si pro ně jet až do Holandska, ale stojí zato,“ říká s úsměvem Pavla Bumbálková.

The New Olympia Shopping and Entertainment Centre, which was unveiled to the public on the 20th of September after almost a year of construction, brings to Brno new standards in shopping and means that Brno now has the second largest Shopping Centre in the country.
The phase 3 extension to the Olympia Shopping Centre took 10 months. Visitors to the shopping centre in the south of the city will have noticed that building work was in progress from the Spring of 2006, though their shopping experience was not disrupted in anyway. As centre manager Pavla Bumbalkova emphasizes that it was no easy thing to coordinate normal operations with the building work, "We couldn't allow visitors to the centre to experience any disruption or discomfort". On the other hand it was important to let visitors know what was going on, to allow them to look over the plans. "We made small plastic windows in the walls to allow visitors to peer in on the developing work in the passage." added Ales Navratil with a smile.
The new passage will not differ greatly from the original architecture; Olympia sticks to a coherent style. "Once again we've used the British Architect Clark Geddes, who drew up the plans for the older sections of the centre", said Ales Navratil. So the airy, spacious passageways will again be brightened by palms and greenery, with dominant dark blue colours and glazed ceilings evocative of Mediterranean ease. What might come as a surprise in the new passageway will be the plantlife. While in the older sections of the centre the palms are smaller, in the new section, 7 giant palms greet us, two of which reach over 11 metres. "We had to drive all the way to Holland for them, but it was worth it" said a smiling Pavla Bumbalkova.
