A bit about myself - I'm an American, who for some reason or another, ended up in the land of the midnight sun. After acquiring competence in the Norwegian language, I transitioned from my previous field (biology/medical research) to teaching (Science/English/Math). For the past 6 years, I've been working as a freelance ESL teacher at a company here in Oslo. We work with mostly Business English, Cultural Awareness, Negotiations, and Presentations. However, we've also done more specific courses catered to individual clients (NGOs, HR firms, political organizations, academia). I've translated research papers, speeches, interviews, brochures, web pages throughout these 6 years. I feel fairly comfortable working with pretty much every facet of business, from HR to Finance (though I have to say accounting is my least favorite topic).
I have a wide knowledge base, with an education in Social Sciences, Natural Sciences, Health Care and Economics. My interests outside of work are traveling, photography, music, art, and medicine.
I translate between Norwegian and English (both ways). I would say I'm stronger going from Norwegian to English as English is my native language and I can play with the text more and make it better as a result. I find that quite often strict translations are not good translations.
Please note that I will only take on projects that I know I will have time for, that I know I'm capable of, and that I know can be done to a high standard. Also, if I know someone who can do a better job than myself, I'll refer you to that person. My motto is there is no point in doing something unless you can you do it 100%.
My rates are competitive and flexible.
Thank you for your time, please don't hesitate to contact me with any queries.
I will be happy to be of service.
Best regards,
