Bio
Hello,

Thanks for taking the time to read through my profile. I’m a professional Japanese to English / English to Japanese translator with seven years of experience in numerous fields.

I was born in the UK, but raised in Australia, and later settled in Japan. During my undergraduate studies in Australia, I studied chemistry and mathematics, with honors in chemistry. I initially came to Japan in 2001 to use a synchrotron facility (at the time, the Australian synchrotron project hadn’t even been approved!) – and never looked back. I studied Japanese intensively, and rapidly developed skills that enabled me to work as a translator.

By 2003 I was back in Australia studying for my MBA. While I was studying, I was also working full time as a translator at an engineering company who specialized in importing machines from Japan, reprogramming and altering the machines to work for Australian standards, and then selling the machines to end users. I had several roles – in technical, business and logistics fields. I found this experience extremely rewarding, and still keep a very close relationship with this company to this day.

I went back to Japan in 2005 after finishing my studies, and entered TDK, where I was involved in research and development. However, considering I was the only native English speaker at our facility, I was frequently involved in translation and interpreting, as well as assisting logistics, towards the end of my term at TDK, my role had morphed from a purely research role to more of an international services role. While at TDK, I also earned a Master of Science in Chemistry from Yamanashi University, where the classes were conducted purely in Japanese.

I passed level 2 of the Japanese language proficiency test in 2003, and later passed level 1 of the Japanese language proficiency test in 2006.
