Since the post I wrote in that thread does not appear on the "most recent posts" page, I have almost no chance to be read, which is quite unfair, I think.
In that post I was wondering why some threads do not deserve to appear on the "most recent posts" page and what criteria are taken into account, and by whom.
I regularly check the "most recent posts" page and am generally interested in a lot of threads. But I don't always tick the track box (don't want to get too many email notifications), which means that I might forget to check if a thread is still active.
The fact that some threads are "not of general interest" (staff's words), is this not a way to "kill" a thread or to prevent it to be reactivated ?

Hi Stephanie,
Could it be that "Most recent posts" are actually "Most recent topics?", i.e. new threads.
I flicked through the first few and see that they are organised according to the date/time of the initial post.
I have also noticed that when you go to each individual 'Forum', then you do get a list of "most recent posts" (check this by clicking the "Site forums" forum on the "Most recent posts" page and you'll see that Barnaby's topic is actually listed there... See more Hi Stephanie,

The problem is that, considering the number of different Forums, I don't have time to check them one after the other to see if new posts have been written.

Sure, but not all latest posts written in October are showed. In certain forums, latest posts written recently do not appear in the "most recent posts".
My concern is: what's the point to write a reply in a bit old thread if your post don't appear on the "most recent posts" page, and if almost no one will have the opportunity to read it/will know that someone wrote something new (except those having ticked the track box ?)

Hi Stéphanie,
I understand. Perhaps the best thing to do would be to have 2 separate pages, one for "Most recent topics" and another for "Most recent posts".
Hopefully, at least the contributors to that particular thread will have checked the "track" option and will have been notified of the new post. Generally, when I write something new on an old thread, it's in response to something that's already been said there and it's those people in particular that I want to be read by.
In fact, I think another useful idea would be for that 'track' check-box to be automatically checked when you enter a comment. More than once I've posted something and only later realised that I didn't check the box. I wonder how many people that's happened to and how often.
Let's just hope that the site staff pick up on some of these ideas.

It happens to me too often. On the other hand, there are many threads that I follow (just by checking the "most recent posts" page; for those threads I don't want to get email notifications - because I get enough notifications a day).

This also sounds like a good and hopefully simple solution.
...there are many threads that I follow (just by checking the "most recent posts" page; for those threads I don't want to get email notifications - because I get enough notifications a day).
Then all you'd have to do is un-click the option - easy enough and surely better than not getting notifications you'd be interested in

You have a filter on your profile where you can select which forums you want to see and which you will filter out.
But I am not sure about this, and have asked staff to explain.

I don't know what the default is, but there is a feature on your profile that you can set to filter particular forums in and out. Under the Settings tab you will find lots of things you can tweak about... including a fairly new feature: 'Select forums to be listed on the homepage'
I think the default is selected, possibly except for non-English forums - I have just checked mine and removed a couple of new forums I am sure I did not choose!

You can also set how many you see (10-20-30) somewhere on your profile.
So up to a point, you can decide for yourself what is of general interest.

I have already precised that I am not talking about my homepage ( I never visit my homepage). I might not ne like other prozians, but I prefer not getting too many email notifications and I check directly new threads/posts by clicking on Community>Forums>Most Recent Posts. Problem is that not all most recent posts are showed.

However, note that the selection of posts is managed in a semi-automated fashion. There is a featured status set automatically for most new threads (depending on the forum) that permits them to appear on the home page and in the "Most Recent Posts" section. But, when a staff member comes across a thread that, for example, is more of a personal support request than a topic for discussion, or a post that has been proposed by a site user/member with any active warnings or blocks, he or she may unset the featured status. Also, topics which are locked may cease to be featured in the "Most Recent Posts" section.
