Two things
Sep 13, 2017
It depends on two things: what can that computer do/not do and can I afford it. When my computer died, I thought I would have to buy a new one. But my computer 'geek' fixed it, added an external hard drive, and now he checks my computer once a year. That considerably extends it life and I will rely on his advice when I really have to buy a new one.

We're only typists. We don't need fancy kit.
I buy cheap and run it until it dies.
My off-the-shelf Dell PC is nine years old. The printer is older still. That's all I have or need.
I agree. Dell is one of the best brands I have used. When my off-the-shelf PC dies, I'm sure I will visit the Dell site again.

HP

HP seems to be reliable - I use my hardware for as long as possible and my HP tower, HP printer and HP screen are all pretty mature.

The important thing to me is that it works (and by "works" I mean is reliable, solid, gives good ROI, the usual stuff). All of which is secondary to whatever brand it is. Although the two usually go hand in hand, this is not always the case.

Yes

Yes, because I had some serious issues with HP, CompaQ and other brands. So, I actually don't choose the brand so much, but there are brands I just won't buy.
