Maybe.... Nov 20, 2012

a very annoying thing has been going on for the last couple of hours but i don't know if it is the same thing you've mentioned.
Every time i open the proz.com page (regardless of whether i am already logged in or not) another page takes over (about IP addresses).
If i try to get rid of that page and go back to proz.com the page comes back again. It insists about 3 or 4 times, then it lets me visit proz.com as normal.

At first i thought i pressed something by mistake and got a page that i am not interested in, but it happens every time i go back to proz.com.
I use IE but the same thing is happening with Firefox and with Safari. Google Chrome does not seem to be affected so far.

I'm using Opera, and this happens to me too, though only when I visit certain forum threads. It happened again in this thread -- I was able to view the thread without any redirect, but when I tried to reply, I got redirected to the IP address site. Fixing it is annoying because it involves pressing the back-button at exactly the right moment to prevent the redirection. It has been happening all morning.

A forum post suggests that it has to do with a mistyped URL in an advert.

Thank you for the comments Nov 20, 2012

I was wondering whether it was my system/firewall or not. But obviously others had same/smilar problems as well.

Actually now I checked to open different URLs of the site and the warning notifications stopped.
So thanks for the site staff, it seems the problem is fixed.

Mystery explained Nov 20, 2012

So that's what it was! It happened to me too, but only on my main PC, which runs XP and IE8. The laptop I happened to be working on at the same time (proofer's comments on it, main draft being revised on PC) was still working fine, but it runs Windows 7...

I think it didn't depend on the systems .. Nov 20, 2012

Hi neilmac,

I do not think it was connected with pc vs. laptop or using different browser types. Because as you can see here people were using different systems, browsers and still experienced it. But as I mentioned previously it seems it is gone after I notified the site staff and they seemed to fix it it. At least I do not experience it any more. Hopefully it is fixed for all of us.

Best regards,
Katalin

Is anyone who was redirected noticing anything odd now? Nov 21, 2012

Hi all,

Thanks very much for these reports. Thanks also to those who reported via support ticket.

We have confirmed the cause of the redirecting. Our ad server was infected with malware this morning. Beyond the redirects, we don't yet have any reports of any consequences. Has anyone who got redirected been affected in any way in the time since? If so, please let us know, preferably via support ticket.

Thanks for your help. I apologize for the inconvenience
